Sony DVD / SACD player code.

Post by PhilBiker »

I have a DVP-NS500V which is an early generation SONY DVD player which also plays SACD. I just got an older model used receiver to replace my other even older model receiver, and I updated my Radio Shack JP1 remote for the different receiver. Worked great, found a .txt file, loaded it, updated my JP1 remote, love it. I was struck by the wierdness of my Sony machine and tried again to program it using JP1 stuff.

It seems that none of the SONY DVD player txt files work with this oddball unit. I have my TV, HDTV box, Dish DVR, and receiver all working completely perfectly with this old remote but I can't even get started with the DVD player. The power button works and some of the numbers work wrong, but that's all I can ever get.

Anyone else hear of different remote codes for older SONY DVD/SACD units?

Have you tried any of the Sony upgrades from the DVD and the CD area of the File section of this forum?

I have tried many of them. How else would I have been able to do what I described in my first post? :)

The power button works and some of the numbers work wrong, but that's all I can ever get.

All you said was that you

It's not clear that you really read the guidance in the sticky post at the top of this Code Search forum. (READ BEFORE POSTING or your post will be DELETED!) since you didn't use the required template.

Code: Select all

1. Device:
2. Type of device:
3. Year:
4. JP1/UEI Remote model:
5. Do you have a JP1 cable?
6. Still have original remote?
7. Checked the file section?
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)?
9. Partially working setup code?
10. Learning remote question?
In particular, it's harder to try to help since you didn't provide any of the information requested here:
7. Checked the file section?
This is more of a checklist item than a real question. The assumption is that you have checked the file section to see if someone else has created an upgrade for this device but didn't find one. Please provide more details if this is not the case. AND REMEMBER, you don't always need to find the exact model that you have as many manufacturers use the same codeset for all models of a device.

If you have tested the upgrades for similar models and they didn't work, please say so in your post. If you found an upgrade that partially works, please post a link to it. DO NOT refer to upgrades by the setup code number that was used as this is meaningless.

...

9. Partially working setup code (or upgrade)?
Have you found a code in your UEI remote that works at least some of the functions of your device, even if it's just the POWER button or the VOLUME buttons? If you have, please state what the code is (eg, DVD/0571). PLEASE include both parts of the code, eg, DVD *and* 0571. If you just say 0571 we won't know if you mean TV/0571, CBL/0571, etc). If you've found an upgrade where some buttons work, please provide a link to it for us. The more info you provide, the more likely it is that we can help. DO NOT refer to upgrades downloaded from the file section by their "setup code", just provide a link to the file you're using.
I'm not trying to be d!ck, but it's just easier to know where we're starting ffrom when you provide the info that's requested.

In any event, I see that none of the DVD upgrades is for a combo DVD-SACD player, so you may in fact be out of lluck. I'd give some of the CD upgrades a try, just in case there might be some overlap there.

Also, have you tried any of the SACD upgrades from the RemoteCentral site? (as question 8 of the template would suggest you search).

It seems from looking around, that Sony's DVD/SACD players use the same ir codes as their DVD players. In fact this page of Sony's DVD ir codes even lists SACD functions.
Did you first try one of the built in codes in your remote for Sony DVD player? Some mixed buttons might indicateDid you check to see if you change the remote model in RM or KM to get the upgrade code for IR? What is the model number of your JP1 remote?

Actually, it would help if you do use the template that Capn Trips linked to above. That would have answered all the questions I have above and started off further along.

Doesn't matter, but here are the answers:

1. Device: Sony DVP-NS500V
2. Type of device: DVD/SACD Player
3. Year: Don't know - circa 2001?
4. JP1/UEI Remote model: Radio Shack 15-1934
5. Do you have a JP1 cable? Yes.
6. Still have original remote? Yes.
7. Checked the file section? Yes. Tried many.
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? No. Don't know what to do with them.
9. Partially working setup code? Yes.
10. Learning remote question? No learning remote.

I guess my remote just won't work with this device. It's an ancient remote. I got my Samsung HDTV box, Pioneer receiver, and Dish Network DVR working using files downloaded here and at the old Yahoo group; my TV works with the built-in Sony code. It's only the SACD/DVD player that doesn't work.

I'm not going to sweat it, I'll just use two remotes when using the DVD. This is my bedroom system and I don't watch DVD up there hardly ever anyway.

There are several SONY DVP-NS900V upgrades over at remote central. Since the Sony DVP-NS500V shares the same service manual, that would be where I'd start.
