Source for IR LED's?

Post by unclemiltie »

I have one of my 6960's that I think the LED is toast. (confirmed with a video camera, nothing is coming out of the LED) I may have left it on for a couple of days while debugging an extender, who knows.

Anyway, the remote functions just fine and I use it in debugging (ie: flashing, reading things, etc) but would like to make it work again. Is there a source for IR LED's that I could use to buy one and solder it in or is tihs remote destined to be only a debug engine?

thanks

I don't think the remotes are that fussy about the IR-LEDs. I just searched over at mouser.com and found a part called QEE213 that I'm guessing would work.

Of course, if you happen to have any dead remotes lying around, you could always salvage the part.

That is in a "sidelooker" package. I've never seen a 6960, but I've never seen a remote with a sidelooker IR LED.

My best guess is that you're not correct about that. But I don't have direct knowledge. I would compare some of the spec's before selecting one.

We know the IR LEDs that are used for both learning and sending are quite picky about specs (the ones used only for sending are less picky). For its dual purpose IR LED, we know the 15-2116 uses the Everlight IR333/HO. Mouser lists that one as "On Order".

My best guess from a quick look at IR LEDs at Mouser is the 512-QED234
http://www.mouser.com/search/refine.aspx?Ntt=512-QED234
but that isn't much more than a guess.
