Sorry, I missed that the first time I looked as I'm not used to such a large space. Typically these days we see small U2 spots ready for a surface mount chip, but this one requires a DIP style chip. However, the good news is that if you were to acquire a DIP style EEPROM chip, you can indeed rig this remote up for JP1, but the mod is medium difficulty.
