I have finished a device upgrade file I created using an 8811 for a Magnavox 17MD255V 17" LCD TV/DVD combo. I have a few questions before I can post it to the file section. I followed the "How Easy it is" document.
I couldn't find a upgrade code/device that was close so I chose 2008. Is there a list of "unknown" device codes or something to base this on?
Since it's a TV/DVD combo should I place it in the File->TV section?
Thanks and I hope someone will find my eventual upload useful.
Created RM Device File...Now what?

The setup code number have very little consequence.
As an individual user, you need only make sure that the full setup code (number AND type) for your upgrade doesn't match any other setup code you're using (have assigned to a device key or as source of a KeyMove). You're probably using only a few setup codes so almost all are available.
If you download someone else's upgrade and/or change which setup codes you're using and suddenly have a conflict, it's pretty easy to load the upgrade into KM or RM and change the setup code number to get rid of the conflict.
Various experts in this forum have various opinions on the value of and the algoriths for selecting good setup code numbers for upgrades you want to share (upload). A common idea (whose value I don't really see) is to add 1000 to the number of the similar built-in setup code when there is one for your device.
An idea in which *I* see a greater benefit is to exactly match the setup code number of the built-in setup code that roughly matches your upgrade WHEN that built-in setup code exists only in other UEI models and not in your model. That idea is intended to hint that the primary purpose of the upgrade is to deal with the absence of that built-in code.
The related idea I am very strongly in favor of is to mention a setup code number in the description of an upgrade IF and ONLY IF that setup code is a standard UEI code number closely related to your upgrade. Mentioning your setup code number in the description, when it is a number you just made up, gives the misimpression that there is more meaning in that number than there is. (Back to where I started: the setup code number of an upgrade typically has very little consequence).
I'm not sure where TV/DVD combos should go. But I don't think the TV section is the right place. Maybe the DVD section is right or maybe there is some other place (home theater, mini system, ??, I'm really not sure).
When I've browsed other places looking for IR data to download, I've generally found DVD/TV combos grouped as DVDs.
