2 devices in one upgrade

Post by Nos402 »

It's been a long time since I programmed my remote and I'm trying to remember exactly how I did it. My remote for my Sony receiver controls the receiver, tuner, and a CD player. It uses at least 3 or 4 device codes. I got my 6131 to control most of the functions, but was now going back to add a few more. I know one of the upgrades has 2 device codes on the one spreadsheet.

I created a second Sony upgrade so that I could "key move" some more of the buttons onto the first sony upgrade. I now need to add another device and am trying to figure out if I need to make a totally new upgrade or if there is someway to add a second device to my second Sony upgrade. Wow this all sounds very confusing written out.

My Sony upgrade 1059 has devices1 as 16 and device2 as 17. I created a device upgrade of 1159 to keymove some device 13 buttons onto the 1059. I now need some keys from device 12 also. Do I need to make a new upgrade or can I some how add 12 to the same upgrade as 13?

Hope someone can make some sense of this.

If you just need to mix and match Sony device codes, you can use the Sony Combo protocol. If you need to mix and match completely different codes (ie, ones that use different protocols, etc) then you would use the Device Combiner.

Both options are selectable from within KM and RM.

You can easily edit or recreate your 1159 upgrade to include device 12 in addition to device 13. The basic Sony12/15 protocol allows two device numbers per upgrade.

To continue to use this KeyMove based approach, you should use the functions sheet of the 1159 upgrade to compute the EFC numbers for you. Swap EFC/OBC if necessary to get OBC in column B. You should enter the OBC of each function in that column and the device choice in column C.

Don't assign any functions to buttons in that upgrade, so all those function definitions don't affect the upgrade, they just compute the EFC numbers and document your intent.

Use the EFC numbers (or equally well the hex commands) computed on the functions sheet when you create the Keymoves.

If you don't want to continue using the extra upgrade plus KeyMoves, then follow Rob's answer.

Thanks to all. Haven't quite got it working yet though. I'm trying to use the combo protocol to have commands from devices 16, 17, 13, and 12. Haven't got it to work yet though. Using the combo protocol and entering those 4 sub devices, now none of my buttons work. I'll mess with it more after I get home from the movies.

Unless those 4 sub-dev's use the Sony20 protocol, you can't enter them on the Setup sheet in KM; they need to be entered in the byte2 column on the Functions sheet.
