8910 extender

Post by skoopman »

I tried to install an extender for my 8910, and now the set button doesn't work. I followed the instructions in the install file for the 8910_ex1.txt, and uploaded it to my remote using IR. What am i doing wrong?

I assume you mean long press of Set. That isn't supposed to work while an extender is active. Why do you need it? You should be using JP1 instead of long press of Set.

To deactivate the extender, either upload an eeprom image without it, or remove a battery and press any key on the remote while the battery is out.

I will answer with 2 questions and the answer to go with them
  • Q1) Are you just loading the .txt file that came in the extender package?
A1) If YES before you upload it to the remote with IR you must either add your device upgrades from KM/RM or select device codes on the general panel of IR.

Q2) Are you using the Exinstall option using your current IR file as input?
A2) If YES you then upload the output .txt file to the remote with IR..
With either option you must then press POWER after the remote resets from the upload. You should then see 4 flashes of the led to indicate it is active.

I don't need to add additional devices, therefore I don't need KM right?
I don't care about keeping previous setting, so I didn't use the install.bat.

That reduces the earlier question to:

Did you remember to change the setup codes and other settings on IR's general tab to match what you want in your remote (after loading the generic extender .txt file and before uploading to your remote)?

The extender appears to be working ok now, i don't know what i did.
I have another question. I want a long keypress of the down button to act as page down for my cable menu, i used the code calculator, then inserted the hex code into a key move in IR but nothing happens on either a short or long press.

By the way thanks for the quick responses
