I'm totally new to this whole JP1 thing, and I think I'll have to end up there to get things like my Cyberhome DVD player working, but til I'm up to speed on that I'm stuck.
I have a camcorder I really, really want to be controlled by this remote. Looking around I'm pretty certain its code 0034 (Since its 'VCR3' on my multi-vcr Sony remote) The trouble is that when I try code 0034 for VCR it says "NOT FOUND" at me and all the other codes listed in the manual for Sony VCRs don't work (but codes 0032 and 0033 turn on my 3 hi-8 VCRs which are set to VCR1 and VCR2 respectively).
Any brilliant suggestions on what I can try?
TIA to all

You did not mention if you had a JP1 cable. If you have a learning remote, an original equipment remote, and JP1 cable, there are several things you can do.
Does your camcorder come with an original remote? Do you have a JP1 cable?
If so, you could learn the code from the OEM remote to the 15-2117 remote, then upload the 15-2117 to IR.exe via the JP1 cable, and if you click on the learning tab it will tell you what you need to know.
JP1 cables can be made or bought. If you would like to buy one, they are available for $14 (including shipping) from www.hovisdirect.com
Good Luck,

I'm already in the buying a cable stage from hovisdirect (I found that link here in the forum somewhere and it seemed to be what I needed), but of course, that won't be here for awhile. I was hoping there was some sort of way to convince the RS remote that it really did understand code 0034 somehow.
Assuming I am right and code 34 is a good starting point, a quick perusal of the JP1 info I've found doesn't seem to show me a way to get that into my remote if it wasn't there to start with. Would I go about it by asking someone to generate the default code 0034 VCR info for me over at the Yahoo JP1 group?

Try rubber hoses, bamboo under the IR LED, and if that does not work, send it to the Syrians for interrogation.bsoplinger wrote:..some sort of way to convince the RS remote that it really did understand code 0034..
We have met them, and they are us. (Rob closed that forum and only uses it for file storage.. Rob started this forum using the phpBB forum software.. looks nicer, yes?)bsoplinger wrote:..asking someone to generate the default code 0034 VCR info for me over at the Yahoo JP1 group?

These are the UEI setup codes vs the normal Sony VTR settingsbsoplinger wrote:Assuming I am right and code 34 is a good starting point
VCR/0032 = VTR3 (Sony 12/15 11,186)
VCR/1032 = VTR3 (Sony 12/15 11,186)
VCR/0033 = VTR1 (Sony 12/15 2,180)
VCR/0034 = VTR2 (Sony 12/15 7,185)
The 2116 does not have the VCR/0034 code, and without a JP1 cable, there's not much you can do to convince it to cooperate. Once you get a cable, there are upgrades available in our JP1 Files section at Yahoo for many Sony VCRs, one of which might work for you, so it is unlikely that you would need to ask someone to make a VCR/0034 in this case. This one has an upgrade for each of the three VTR settings. In the meantime, you might be able to learn 15 or 20 commands from the original remote before the learning memory fills up.bsoplinger wrote:a quick perusal of the JP1 info I've found doesn't seem to show me a way to get that into my remote if it wasn't there to start with. Dumb question about those Sony files. Each one, regardless of whether its the VCR 1, 2 or 3, says its device 1032. Does that mean if I want to use the VCR3 file, I need to change the box under where I pick the remote to 1034 say from 1032 to get it to work? (and then set my remote to use device 1034?)

You are free to change the setup code number to any valid number you desire (0000 to 2047), as long as it does not conflict with another one you are using. You can then set a device button in IR to use whatever setup number you chose. So, you could leave the upgrade set to 1032, or you could change the upgrade to 1034, or you chould change the upgrade to 0473. All will work, as long as you set a device button to use the matching setup code type and number.bsoplinger wrote:Dumb question about those Sony files.
