Power On discrete codes and macros

Post by birdman »

I read the beginners guide to JP1 and I am still a little confused on how to enter the discrete codes for power on and off in a macro. I have found the codes for my TV,

018 Discrete On
082 Discrete Off

but I do not know where and how to enter them in a macro in IR or KM.

I installed IR and got it working with my remote (15-2116) and can see the macros that I entered by hand.

Thanks, Eric

What you want to do is to create keymoves for Discrete On and Discrete Off. A keymove assigns the EFC to a key. Then include that key in your macro.

You can assign them to "Phantom" keys (like Phantom1) if you don't have a spare button. But it might be a good idea to use a physical button while testing (that way you can make sure the Discrete Codes work outside of the macro).

That makes sense. Thank you. Now I can't get my remote to communicate with IR. I changed the delay and tried different ports. Is there a special sequence you have to do when running and stopping IR and plugging your remote in and out?

edit: I fixed it by taking the batteries out and putting them back in.

My Keymove's did not take.

This is how I set it up in IR:

On the keymove Tab,

Device=TV
Key=new key I want to add (stop_eject)
shited box=unchecked
Device Type=TV
setup code=0054 (philips magnavox TV)
EFC=082 (discrete power off for setup code 0054)

Is this correct?

Did you:

1. First "download" from the remote into IR,

2. Make the changes described above, and

3. "upload" that new configuration back into the remote?

If that isn't the problem. Save your configuration in IR and post the file in the JP1 Yahoo Group|files|diagnosis area, tell us it's there, and someone will take a look.

That way you don't even have to bother to write a description, we can see exactly what you are doing.

OK, I uploaded the file and it is called eb_1_12_04.

I have sucessfully made changes to the remote via IR, just not successful discrete commands.

Thanks

It look like the keymoves are done correctly. My guess is that the Philips TV does not respond to discrete commands. If they do, those commands are correct.

You might try, from the TV Off, the ch+ command or any other button on the OEM remote to see if it turns On. That mostly works on European models but is worth a try. Philips for some reason has been pretty arbitrary about discrete power and input commands. They seem to be model dependent.

Thanks a lot for looking at it! I will give that a try.
