Remote suggestion: URC 9910 or RS 15-100 or ?

This is the JP1 beginners forum. There's no such thing as a stupid question in here, so post away, but this forum is just for JP1 users and people considering JP1, non-JP1 users please use the appropriate forum above!

Remote suggestion: URC 9910 or RS 15-100 or ?

Post by varaonaid »

Hello,

I'm looking to add a second Jp1 remote to our "family" and was curious which one you would recommend. Two I've found that look like they would be good are the URC 8910/9910 or RS 15-100. I'm sure there are others, too. I have our current one setup with 6 devices and numerous macros and wondered which one you like and why. My current cable is a standard JP1 and I guess some of the newer remotes would require a different cable. Is this correct?

Any thoughts would be *much* appreciated!!! Thanks so much in advance!

What is you "current" one? The 8910/9910 will probably work with the same cable (presuming your current remote is a JP1) whilst the RS 15-100 will require a different cable.

That's one consideration.

The other one is that the 8910/9910 have extremely mature support with well-documented and de-bugged extenders, whilst the 15-100 is relatively newer, and may not have quite the same depth and breadth of expertise in the forum.

Also, unless you're very handy with a soldering iron, I wouldn't recommend the 15-100, as it has no pins for a JP1.3 connector.

I highly recommend the 9910, I'm running 3 with extenders and am very happy
