Simple interface not responding?

Post by prod »

Tried to make up the parallel JP1 cable but keep getting "no response from interface." Parallel is chosen in IR.exe and port is enabled.
I checked all pins using an ohmeter, all seems correct. Wires 1 and 2 are shorted (10 Ohm), wire 3 to pin 25 is 10 Ohm, wire 4 to pin 11 is 10 Ohm, wire 5 to pin 4 is 1KOhm, wire 6 to pin 3 is also 1KOhm.
However when I try to read resistance across the 1N4004 diode, it seems to count down slowly from about 1MOhm. Does that mean this diode is too slow? The only other type I have is 1N914, would that be better?
The local electronics store doesnt have the 4148.

EDIT: went out and picked up some 4148 diodes from another store.
Bad news, still no response from the interface. I picked up parts for 2 more cables so I will start over again. :(

WOOOOOOT

Made another cable and it works 8)
Im guessing it was bad soldering or cable.
This is the old cable/new cable, guess which works:

8) Right you are, seems to work just perfectly.
I havent bothered to diagnose the first one, it looks correct though.

I am having a bit of a hard time seeing, but it looks like you have two 1K Ohm resistors on the cable that doesn't work, and 10K Ohm on the one that does. 1K Ohm is Br, Bk, Rd; 10K Ohm is Br, Bk, Or. Red and Orange are easy to confuse.

Also, it sure looks like there are parts that are touching each other in the first cable that shouldn't be.

They are all 1k resistors, the blue ones brand new just out of the box.
Things in the pic are a little twisted, when tested nothing was touching and bare wire was taped. Using a multimeter nothing was shorted out. Still cant figure it out, but the new one works.
Im happy to have one working, but if someone wants the old one to resolder and fix for themselves I will ship it to ya no charge, AS IS
