The Key Move/Macro data is not terminated correctly?
OK, I'm getting back into this, got some new toys to play with.
Downloaded the latest RM and IR tools, got the soldering iron our and put some pins on my new 6960's and was ready to go.
I copied my first upgrade that I have used successfully with my 6131's in the past with a couple of keys moved around because of the remote layout and when I copy using the RM copy button and then past into IR the upgrade and try to save, I get the message:
The Key Move/Macro data is not terminated correctly
huh?
I've done this a million times before and never seen this.
I'm using:
IR V 6.20
RM V1.58

Is the URC-6960 using the URC-9960s RDF or did you have to create a new RDF? For most JP1 remotes, the keymove/macro section is terminated using a 0x00 byte, but the section in the 9960B01 is terminated using an 0xFF byte, so the following new parm was added to the RDF:
SectionTerminator=$FF
SectionTerminator=$FF

more info
IR recognized the remote as the 6960 from the start, and I'm using the standard RDF that was shipped in the ZIP from the files section.

Do this...
1) Save your current memory, just so you can get back to it
2) do a 981 reset on the remote
3) download and save this file
4) do a single keymove on the remote
5) download and save this file
6) post both files

Files in diagnostic area
Two files
The first is the virgin ROM that I read before I started doing anything with the remote.
the second, I reloaded the virgin ROM and then did the keymove

Both of those files open just fine for me, so I can't recreate the problem. I would check that you have the latest versions of the RDFs.

It's not that I can't open those files, that seems to work just fine. I just can't paste an upgrade from RM into IR, when I go to accept the upgrade it tells me that the Key Move/MAcro is not terminated correctly.
What I did was take an upgrade that I had done before for my 6131, change the remote to the 6960, move a few keys around since the remotes are a bit different and then try to create a "new" 6960 from the virgin ROM file.
I went back and changed the remote back to 6131 and the upgrade in RM back to a 6131 and it loads up fine so something about the 6960 is causing this.

Are you including keymoves as part of the upgrade that you are copying over? I've tried copying upgrades without keymoves and they get added just fine, but I am seeing problems when I try to copy an upgrade that includes keymoves. In my case, i get a message about the FAV/SCAN listing having too many entries.
Could you post here a copy of the RM generated upgrade that you are attempting to copy.
In the meantime, if you don't include keymoves in your upgrade, you should be able to proceed. (You can always re-create the keymoves in IR).

uploaded upgrade with keymoves from RM
https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=3355
This is for a Dish PVR 721 dual-tuner satellite PVR. There may be one in the remote (I haven't tried yet) but I do use two different device ID's so I'll need this anyway.

Actually, I was just looking for the block of text that you cut and paste. I opened your file using RM, and I got the following text...
Upgrade code 0 = 0E EF (SAT/1775) DishPVR 721 (RM v1.58)
E2 17 3E FE FE FD F8 00 80 00 00 68 78 08 2C 68
78 70 60 48 00 50 6C 40 3D 1D 94 98 0D 80 C5 C9
84 7C D9 58 DD
KeyMoves

8C F0 04 06 EF 00 65«pip swap»¦
8B F0 04 06 EF 00 45«pip on/off»¦
8D F0 04 06 EF 00 25«pip move»¦

67 F0 04 06 EF 00 F2«power on»¦
3B F0 04 06 EF 00 AE«power off»
End
I also get the "terminated" message when I paste this into IR.exe, and if I paste it without the keymoves, it works just fine. So, until we can get to the bottom of the problem, I suggest you just make upgrades without keymoves.

Thanks Rob, now I know that I'm not going crazy!
I've started to pull together the upgrades without the keymoves and then put them in by hand. It's a bummer, but at least I know I can do it.
I'm probably not going to switch completely to the Kameleon until Nils gets the extender ported to the 6960, which he says is on his list. I've gotten very used to the features of the extender on the 6131.

Something else is going on as well....
I made an upgrade with no keymoves just to get started, it doesn't work in the 6960, I went back with the same software, same cables, etc and made the same upgrade for the 6131 and it worked fine.
Then, playing around, I uploaded an IR file with only that one upgrade in it and the device selection for that single device in it. All appeared well.
I then downloaded from the remote and got something strange.
IR reported
"Bad checksum at address $0000. Expected $CC $33 but found $37$C8
Interestingly enough, the file that I uploaded had a checksum of $37$C8 and I can't seem to find any difference from the raw data in IR.
I've tried three 6960's, all were new and in the bubble wrap package when I got them. All with the same results.

Hi all,
Thanks for a great forum and for sharing your knowledge...
I'm having the exactly the same problem trying to load this upgrade from the files section:
https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=3258
and then trying to cut and paste it into IR
It also has keymoves, and I'm trying to upgrade my new 9960B01...
One thing I have noticed is that the button's assignment gets scrambled when I load it in RM (I.E. Arrow UP does NOT correspond to Arrow UP), but this happens only to normal commands and not to shifted commands...
Also, the keymoves section seems to be missing some of the keymoves...
All this doesn't happen in KM, and the file loads just fine...
Problem is... I can't find my remote in KM
Please bear with me if I'm not made myself entirely clear... I'm a total beginner with JP1 and still have to learn the Jargon...
Oh! BTW... Each time I start IR, I get an error elling me that eeProm size and buffer size does not match... I have the "force" option for 4k eeprom, but where and how can I set the buffer size?
Ciao all!
Joe
