REC button requiring double press

Post by Smudge »

I just noticed that I have to press the REC button twice for it to send the signal. The first press doesn't to anything (red light doesn't blink and the device doesn't respond) but the second press sends the signal properly. This happens with all the TV/PVR/DVD/VCR device sets.

I have a 6131nw PVR 2k remote and use the ir.exe programming tool.

This is standard for all UEI remotes, it's a safety feature to prevent you from accidentally recording over something.

The quickest way to disable it is to re-program the button using a keymove.

Create a key move on the REC button and it will override the default 2-press behaviour.

It's also overridden if you program it from a 'non-vcr' style device. On my 8910, I only need one press when it's a 'cable' device (I think the 8910 is one of the few where the transport keys could be directly programmed on a cable device). It needed two presses when I had it originally had it set up as a VCR device (had originally adpated upgrade from an earlier 8811).
