RCA RT2600 audio receiver

Post by Tarheel »

Ok to start with I have a RS 15-1994.I have the cable to program the remote with.I have already made a backup of my current settings.I have d/loaded all the recommended programs and files except for devices4.zip.I couldn't find it.I have excel97 installed and keymaster latest.I am trying to figure out how to upload commands for an rca rt2600 audio receiver.I found some text files for rt2300 and various rca audio devices, but I have no idea of how to use or convert them to irexe??I've opened the text files in keymaster and irexe but am completely lost where to go from there.I have also read the beginners guide and the readme for irexe and keytmaster but am a bit overwhelmed

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That link is as good an answer to that question as we know how to write. Retyping the details of that answer into the thread wouldn't be very productive.

If you have more specific questions, I think you'll find this is a very helpful forum.

Ok sorry if I got a little bothered by the answer.I am tying to get ahead of the learning curve.I went back to the link yes its very useful information,I now know how to save and transfer the file from keymapmaster to irexe.I added the code for Rt2300 into the device option of irexe.I assigned a button aux1,next I went to upload to remote the code 1054 was listsed in the aux1 block.I uploaded wiated for the light on remote to blink.Next I d/loaded from the remote but the code wasn't accepted.I have tried it several times but I must be missing something else.I read how easy is it from top to bottom and followed the images and info.Is there something else to edit before I can upload the code?

When you assigned the Aux1 button did you set both the Type and Code to match what was defined in the upgrade?

I uploaded wiated for the light on remote to blink.
Did the remote LED blink twice after the upload?

Next I d/loaded from the remote but the code wasn't accepted.
If the remote LED didn't blink after the upload then the EEPROM was not read. If that's the case, try removing the cable after the upload.

Thanks for your reply!

The code I am unsure how to do that,I assumed when I copied it that was already set,it did display in the device code (general) as 1054 assigned to aux1.

The light did indeed blink twice as if the code was accepted.

In KM, give your setup the code 1054 (ar any other number from 0000 to 2037 that takes your fancy). Make sure it is for the correct universal remote model and for the correct device type. Make sure that you have chosen the correct protocol, device number and (where applicable) subdevice number(s).

Open IR and check that you are using the correct RDF.

In IR goto the Devices tab and copy and paste your upgrade from KM. You should see its setup code number appear in the column on the left. Copy any protocol code over to the Protocol tab if KM suggests that you do (code box below the Device code on the Setup tab). Not all devices and upgrades need protocol code copied over as your remote will have some built-in.

In IR goto the General tab and assign code 1054 to a device button and make sure that the device type matches your upgrade.

Now save this interim file with a memorable name/number.

Now upload to the remote. The blinking "LED" just means that the data has been successfully written to the EEPROM. The only way to be sure that something will then actually work at controlling a device is to try it out.

If still stuck then upload a copy of your IR file to the File Section and post a link to it here.

In our ongoing effort to make learning how to use JP1 as easy as possible, could you please give us some idea of how you weren't able to find that link for yourself when you tried to get started?

If you could tell us what articles you did read, this will help us to know how to make the help articles most easily found by beginners.

In KM, the upgrade will have a Device Type and Setup Code specified on the Setup sheet. When this code gets copied and pasted into IR's Devices tab it will also display the Device Type/Setup Code in the Upgrade Device dialog. That is the information you need to assign to the proper device button on IR's General tab.

Also, depending upon which upgrade file you started with, KM might also display a required Protocol Upgrade. If so, it too must be copied and pasted into IR's Protocols tab. If a protocol upgrade is specified by KM and it's not copied over to IR, the device upgrade won't work.

Sorry if my answer was short. The link I provided is the very first link in the sticky thread Beginners - read this thread first in the JP1 Beginners forum.

It seems reasonable to me to expect a beginner to have read that.

The link I provided also happens to answer exactly the question you were asking.

Once again Thank you to everyone for thier help!I followed underquark's post concerning the protocol and subdevice. That was my problem.I changed the protocol where KM suggested then loaed the file to irexe and uploaded to remote. It worked!I have much more control over the Rt2600 than with the Kameleon remote. There are still other features I would like to explore to have more control such as for the subwoofer and source selections. But without an orginal remote that means starting from scratch. The rt2300 file is close to the 2600 but not complete control.I am excited to have gotten this far but I know there is a long long way to go!

To Robman,I obviously overlooked that link in my haste.Once it was pointed it out it was plain as day.I went past how easy is it to the beginners guide.I thought how easy is it was like QandA not all the information that it contains.Just my opinion but posssibly renaming how easy is it to start here or begin here might be better. When I saw beginners guide I jumped to it first.

You guys have a great forum with a wealth of knowledge! It will take me a bit to get the hang of it all!

Thanks to all for your help. :D

I will try to upload my file later.

That's very confusing... normally when you're using an existing upgrade file, there's no need to change any of the protocol parameters. Exactly what did KM "suggest" you change?

I used this file..
Filename: RCA_RT2300_Receiver_URC-8910.txt

The remote I have is the RS 15-1994

I had to change the protocol name to RCA
and the device code to 68

I omitted in my previous post (protocol device) just said protocol.

Is that the confusion?

I am not sure but after making that kind of change to the upgrade you may find that some functions don't work. Like the input select functions.

That upgrade loads for me as device combiner upgrade and if I change it to rca with dev 68 it seems to break the input selects.

Mind you I don't have a rca receiver to test on so am not sure.
