I have to do a bunch of stuff like that (I forget the exact sequence) to make it region free, but as the player can't handle PAL, being region free doesn't do me much good.

I'm going to save this in case I ever want to watch a DVD coded for a different region. But for the current problem I'm taking the coward's way out. Today I picked up a manual AV switch that should do the job...whompus wrote:Robman could very well be right. I have been told the region free steps also disable mv but dont know anyone with one to be sure.
If you hook it to vcr and have problems try this.
1. Turn the player on without a disc in it or disk tray out

$8 at a local electronics store. We use the VCR very little, and since I have to be at the equipment to put the tape in it setting the switch shouldn't be too much of a chore. Provided I can remember to do it, of course!
Thanks for taking the trouble to document the above.
