RM won't load .txt

Post by varaonaid »

Hi,

I'm switching over to RM from KM as many people say it's the better program. By the looksof it, I'm going to like it.

However, I'm having trouble getting it to load my KM .txt files. Here's what I did:

Found the RM 0.96 on the hifi-remote.com/files section. I installed it thinking it was the latest. Then went on over to yahoo and was directed to sourceforge.net and the new 1.29 version. I downloaded and installed it. Try to open the .txt files - nothing happens. I tried to just copy the codes using clipboard etc. and RM said that it couldn't do that either because there was no "remote.name".

I deleted the 0.96 files/folder as well as the 1.29 to try and reinstall. Still have the same trouble after reinstalling. For kicks, I installed RM 1.29 on another machine we have and it loaded the .txt files with no trouble. I'm wunning WinXP on both machines (SP2)/Java Runtime Enviroment 5.0 Update 4 (1st machine that doesn't work), Java Runtime Enviroment 5.0 Update 2 (2nd machine that does work)

Where do I go from here?

Thanks in advance.

I have ran into the same thing with 1.29. Maybe Greg will see this thread and have us strightened out in a few. For the mean time I just made another folder and went back to rm 1.27 and have no problem with it.

RM 1.29 requires the latest 1.24 RDF's. Are you using those?

When RM does something strange like that, the best way to figure out what's gone wrong is to close RM and look in the rmaster.err file. You can either upload it to the Diagnoisis Area or post the part of the file that shows what exception occurred (search for the text exception).

It also usually helps if you post links to the particular file that is giving you trouble.

BTW, RM doesn't require RDFs v1.24, but if you want the improved remote matching when loading KM or old RM upgrades, you do need RDFS v1.24 or later.

I got my problem sorted. I was extracting to old folder without removing the old version in it. It doesnt seem to like that. I put 1.29 in new folder and put the rdfs there also and it is working as it should now. BTW it was varaonaid 5005 upgrade I was testing with.

I did go ahead and upgrade to the 1.24 RDF's. I'll find the error code message and upload it to the diagnosis area as you suggested. In the meantime, I'm including the link as requested to the file I downloaded as well as the same location that has been giving me trouble:

RemoteMaster.v1.29.zip

I don't want a link to the version of RM you downloaded. I want a link to the KM .txt file that is causing trouble.

Sorry, Greg. I misunderstood. It's the same file whompus was using to test his.

I'm going to upload the error message file to the diagnostics section as well.

Happiness!

For some reason after a reboot everything is working! It loaded the .txt file without a hitch.

Don't know what went wrong or why that reboot happened to fix it but I'm happy nonetheless.

Thanks for your help!
