help getting started with urc-8910

Post by shigaloo »

I have been reading and searching (here) alot since i ordered the remote

Here is where I am at:

Hardware:

Received a URC 8910 with JP1 cable and have it hooked up to my PC via parallel port

Software and steps taken so far:

1. IR600.zip

a. Installed and backed up the factory settings * however using “CPT0CPT0 (URC-9910_8910).rdf” from 8910ex1_1.zip, found in the files section.

b. then after some more digging I installed the rdf update for RM 1.19 (using "CPT0CPT0 (URC-8910(Old)_9910(Old)_8910(New)_9910(New)_HTPro).rdf" and got:
“Bad checksum at address $0000. Expected $1E $E1, but found $5C $A3”
Things look OK e.g., tabs show up, but what do I know...

So i saved another .ir file just in case.

2. RM 1.22 - installed and RDF for 8910, see the correct remote image (using URC-8910(New) from the drop down list)

Before I do anything else, i would like to know what the bad checksum is all about, and if I am doing something wrong.

Thanks to all those who have blazed the trail to get me this far and in advance for your help.

I think you are confused over the concept of RDFs. You shouldn't need to pick and chose the RDF that you use, IR.exe will automatically pick the correct RDF for you, assuming that you have all of the current RDFs saved locally and have set the RDF path correctly.

Either way, you should not be using the RDF for the extender unless you're actually using the extender, which it sounds like you are not.
