URC-6541 "Audio Zapper"

Post by The Robman »

This is an informational post. I recently received a URC-6541 "Audio Zapper" remote from England (thanks Andy). These "zapper" remotes are tiny remote with very few buttons, they have the bank of vol/ch buttons that are common for European remotes and in addition they have a POWER button and the transport keys, and that's it. Well, actually, the RECORD button has been replaced with an "F" (for Function) button which supposedly will select the right input on the audio receiver.

This one has four device buttons, including three audio buttons: TUN, CD and MD and one "video" button: TAPE (Tape codes are grouped in with VCR codes).

The main reason for this post is to document how you perform 9xx type commands on this remote. Basically you use a combination of the vol/ch buttons:

975: ch-, vol-, vol+
976: ch-, vol-, vol-
980: ch-, vol+, vol-
981: ch-, vol+, vol+ (not in manual)
990: ch-, ch-, ch+
991: ch-, ch-, ch-
992: ch-, ch-, vol+
993: ch-, ch+, vol+ (set's the VPT - not in manual)
993: ch-, ch-, vol- (turns VPT off for 1 device - not in manual)
994: ch-, ch+, ch-
F: ch-, ch+, vol-

The "994" command can't be used to program advanced codes, you just use it to "locK" a button in place, thus allowing you to change the setup code and the button won't change, but this does format a traditional keymove in the E2, so a JP1 user would be free to program traditional keymoves using advanced codes.

Oh yeah, like most European JP1 remotes, the 6-pin connector is upside down (from our POV)

Hi Rob,

I have a 6540. I would like to know if you are going to build an RDF for it because it may come in handy to have a secondary remote like this with a few keys for my wife or my son.

Thanks,

Sergio

We already did that: EZP0EZP0 (URC-6540_6541 1K Version).rdf

[EDIT: link deleted as RDF is included in the master zip file]

Hi,

I have a URC-6540 and have used the RDF file on this thread, but the remote is not listed the Keymaster spreadsheet. Does anyone know a way of using the Keymaster with this remote?

thanks in advance,

KM (keymap-master) doesn't support it, but because there is an RDF, RM (Remote Master) does.

6540 RDF not allowing RM1.5x or 1.60 to start up

Post by brian kvedaras »

Hi, as a new JP1 user, I have found your forum a great help. I have created some upgrades for my own devices.

Nearly finished but wanted to programme my URC-6540 'audio zappers'. The trouble is when the RDF listed above in this thread is stored in the rdf folder, then Remote Master 1.5x or 1.6 will not start up. Something is written to the ...err file in the RM folder.

Has anyone else had this experience, and if so, is there a fix??

thanks,
Brian

You should use the rdfs from the latest rdf zip file in the main tools section. The rdf linked to above is pretty old.

Not sure how, because filename and date seems the same, but now programme starts up.

Many thanks!!
