Troubles with Harman/Kardon AVR230

Post by MattMann »

I read the sticky post, so I hope I am not out of line. I built a cable for my 15-2116, learned as many as I could, downloaded and cleared, learned some more, downloaded and cleared again. I have two files I saved from IR with the two sets I created from IR.

I then whipped out the Keymap Master to try to make an upgrade file, and I just eneded up getting confused. I consider myself to be fairly intelligent -- I can catch on to things and figure stuff out rather easily, but I just tripped on this one.

My biggest problem was the Main Device/Sub Device numbers. Some bottons use one pair of Device/Subdevice numbers, others use a different pair. I guess if I understood that more, I'd be better off.

Plus, on the Functions page, I get confused pretty quick. Not sure what they want me to type in from IR.

By the way, this is the tutorial I followed: http://www.i-hacked.com/Consumer-Electr ... emote.html

So, in conclusion, I am hoping someone has already done a code upgrade for the Harman/Kardon AVR230 and if not, perhaps soe tips will help me create one.

There are eight HK device upgrades here download the ones for the AVR 300 and AVR 325 and see how they were done. HK gear generally uses two device/sub-device combinations so, those will show you how to use the tools. They probably will have most commands you need.

I think Rob's original document (that was used in the one you linked) may be easier to follow:

www.hifi-remote.com/jp1/help

Also it is really useful to post the file saved in IR with the learned commands and your attempt at a device upgrade. Just zip them together, read the sticky post about posting links to the Yahoo files section and upload to the diagnosis area. That way we can see exactly what you have done and can be more specific.

Where the two device codes 128.112 and 130.114? If so, you can use the HK Combo protocol, and in fact, you can use any of the HK upgrade files in the file section (except the one for the AVR80).

You could also avoid a protocol upgrade by using the "NEC 2DEV Combo" protocol selection in KM.

Rather than using that offsite guide to creating upgrades, why not use the one located here:

http://www.hifi-remote.com/jp1/help/

Just FYI, the official code for this setup is audio/1306 and it can be found in the URC-6131 and 15-2133 remotes.

Yeah, I started to look at those, but at the time I looked at them I was not yet familiar with Keymap Master and I didn't know what to look at.

I just got the Remote Master -- looks like it may be easier (not able to test it though, I am now at work and can't play).

Still not too sure how to handle the dual device pairs. I'll try to post the two IR files I saved when I get a chance. Thanx.

If you have Excel, read the protocol help page in KM.

Looks like The Robman posted just as I did and I didn't see it until now.

Thanx for the help. I did what yuou suggested and opened the AVR300 file. Looks pretty damn close. Plus, using the Remote Commander is MUCH easier than the Keymap Master. I just loaded the upgrade file and moved some buttons around like I like 'em, and when I go home for a lunch break, I'll give it a shot...

In fact, now that I am getting more familiar with Remote Master, I think I'll be able to create my own from scratch very easily. Sweet.

The one I want to create for myself will be too custom and no one will likely be able to use it. I'l create a generic one for the AVR 230 and post it in the downloads.

Thanx again.
