Sony DVD home theatre DAV-FR10W

Post by es114 »

Need an upgrade to Sony DVD home theatre DAV-FR10W. I have an R/S 15-2116 and am a JP1 user. No upgrades in the files section seem to work although device code 1503 does toggle the unit on/off. I have the original remote. Will combine this with my SAT receiver and new Sony TV.

Thanks,

Eric

Please read the #1 FAQ thread before posting here. I know you didn't read it because you're not using the template, and you need to explain why you can't capture the signals yourself, given that you have both the original remote and a JP1 learning remote.

Rob,

I certainly did read the outline and provided all the info asked. I had simply thought there may be someone out there who was familiar with this system and had created an upgrade. The sony remote is quite complicated and learning all functions is a daunting task. I am not lazy.

While our hope is that everyone who builds an upgrade will place a copy of it in the files area for the next person to use, we can't do anything if they don't. Therefore, if you can't find an upgrade (exact match or close enough to get you started), chances are there isn't one. You can try searching the CCF files at RemoteCentral to see if you get any hits. Other than that, your only JP1 option is learning.

It's probably not as daunting as you think (though I say that with reservation since Sony combo units can be tricky). The bottom line is that if you had started learning a few hours ago when you first posted, you'd be well on your way to having an upgrade built by now.

Mark,

Understand. Did learn several keys and copied to my current JP1 file. Not certain how to add the learned functions to devices section of the file. Do I leave as learned? Thought that was not the best option.

I'll take you at your word that you read it, but if you did so, you must have missed the part in bold red letters:
To make the process easier, please cut & paste the following template into your post and answer the questions contained within. Any future posts that don't include this will be instantly closed.
You must also have missed the part right after that...
Finally, if your JP1 remote is a learning remote and you do have the original remote, please explain what is preventing you from using learning to capture the signals and then you building an upgrade yourself. Answers such as "I'm too lazy" are not acceptable.

REMEMBER, we're here to help but you have to be willing to help yourself too.
You need to understand that we created these rules for a reason. The main folks here that do all the helping have been in this group for about 4 years already and we get TIRED having to go through the same song and dance with every newbie that doesn't want to create his own upgrades. So, we created this one simple rule that we ask people to follow when posting code requests.

Given the amount of time and effort that we all put into helping you, we don't think it's really too much to ask. Do you?

The DAVFR10 is quite similar to the HCDFC7 that I captured here This is a RemoteMaster file. You might try it and see if it gets you started. Your remote seems to have a couple of extra buttons that you could add to an upgrade file.

With Sony a DAV model is the same as an HCD model. The "Dream System" files would be possibilities as well as any of the other HCD models. I have a lot of technical access on Sony products which I don't mind sharing but I'm way too new at this to instruct anyone very well on JP1. A fair amount of reading and looking at old posts is important to getting started with JP1.

Generally you don't add additional functions within IR.exe , unless they are Keymoves or Macros ; you take the learned information (information like Disk skip was learned as Sony20 , device 16 , subdevice 16 , OBC 62 , EFC 177) and use it in KeyMaster or RemoteMaster to build an upgrade or add it to an existing upgrade which you then paste into IR adding a new device (and then after you make sure your new upgrade works correctly you upload it for others to benefit from too).
Just call me Zaphod (or Steve) --- I never should have started using numbers in a screen name but I just can't stop now.

Zaphod,

Downloaded your remote master file and uploaded. Very few keys worked. I am starting to create my own file from learned keys. If you have any others more closely related to the Sony DAV FR10W, let me know.

Thanks,

Once you have a few keys learned, this should give you an idea of what device codes this device uses, you can then look up that device code on the Sony site to get the rest of the commands that are part of that device code. Granted, not all of them will work on your device, but many of them will, including many that are not covered by your original remote.

In the unlikely event that you find a command that is on your original remote, but is not on the list at the Sony site, drop Rob H an email so he can add it to the list.

Almost there but now stuck. KM is loaded using RS 2116 learned codes. But I have more than 4 Sony20 subdevice codes on a Sony combo 12/15/20 setup. Any suggestions?
