I have an RCA Scenium HDTV (HDLP 50") whose remote control has device selection buttons (TV, SAT/CBL, DVD, VCR ...) that when pressed turn on the TV, select the correct input on the TV, and put the remote into the right mode. I learned these codes using IR5. They all have the same protocol RCA and OBC 58 but the "device" is different as shown at the bottom of the pasted info below. Since there is only room for one "main device code" in KM, do you have any suggestions on how I can handle this in KM, IR or any other program? I appreciate anyone's help on this.

To program this as one upgrade you would select the RCA Combo protocol in KM or RM. However, apart from the input selects, there only appear to be 2 buttons that use a different device code.
I always recommend programming the input selects as keymoves in the relevant mode. For example, rather than programming a button in TV mode that selects the DVD input (which means you have to remember which button it is), it's a better idea to program a button in DVD mode that selects the correct TV input. Then use this same button in all the other modes for those input.
If you do that for the inputs, that means you just have to create 2 keymoves for the 2 buttons that use different device codes (ie, VCR+ and BLUE)

The RCA combo works!!! I am creating upgrades for all my devices in KM and up until now all the keymoves were a result of KM automatically mapping them. To do what you suggest i.e. use keymoves to program input selects for the device rather than the TV, is it easier to do this directly in KM, IR or to do it in the remote and then check the code using IR download?
Which is easier is up to you. If you build the upgrade using the combo protocol, it would probably be easier to map the keymoves in KM as it's a good way to keep a record of them.
However, I would recommend that you build the upgrade using the regular RCA protocol with device code 15, then program keymoves for all the input selects against the appropiate setup codes (see below), in IR.
The EFC for all of these is 227 (OBC 58):
RCA 5 = DVD/0522
RCA 7 = SAT/0392 or SAT/0566
RCA 8 = CD/0053
RCA 13 = VCR/0202
RCA 14 = VCR/0060
RCA 15 = TV/0047
I've never heard of RCA using a device code of 3, so if the BLUE and VCR+ functions really use device code 3, you could create a dummy upgrade using that device code and program those two buttons (if you need them) as keymoves against it, or you could just leave them as learned signals (but I would recommend that you verify that your decodes are correct for those two).

Rob: Thanks for the advice on how to program the input selects. For future reference, how does one find the similar device codes for a given protocol or code that you listed for me. I tried looking thru devices4.xls and it only shows one at a time. There must be a more efficient way.
As you suggested, the device code 3 was a typo on my part; it was 15, consistent with all the others.
Not sure if I should post this as a seperate item but I found that the macro I programmed on my power key usingt KM/IR, not extenders, works fine as long as the remote is in any mode but My-System. When it is in My_Sytem mode, no signals are sent out. Is this a limitation of the RS 2116?

This is one of those things that you basically need to ask us and we'll tell you. There are files that list all this info but we don't publish this sort of thing as it could be considered copyrighted material by UEI.

Cool. I just fixed your earlier post to reflect this (I also tidied up the table).

This should be a seperate thread as the answer will get buried in a thread like this and won't be of much use to the next person searching for it.

Thanks Rob and Mark for your expert advice and knowledge
Based on Rob's suggested alternatives from above for the"key moves", I am trying the KM direct method but have a question. From the documentation, my interpretation is that I should implement my input selectors by using the "external functions" method on the functions page instead of the "key moves" page. Is this correct?

To do it in KM, that's correct. The inputs are "external" to the main upgrade device. So, to create a key move for the DVD input, you would create a function like "=DVD/0522 Input DVD" with an EFC of "227" and then assign it to the appropriate button on the Buttons sheet.
You can also assign that same function to any other valid device mode/button on the Key Moves sheet, but in my opinion, that goes beyond the scope of the KM upgrade and is better done (and documented) directly in IR.
