Dreambox -> urc-7541

Post by mietde »

I've got myself an urc-7541 and want to use it to control my dreambox aswell.
I have played around with the dreambox remote a while back but never needed to go further than making some keymoves to get my philips tv do as i wanted.
I had made an upgrade but never felt assured enough to use it, think it was good though but i could do the job then with a dozen or so keymoves, so why take the chance to ruin something.
Anyway, times are changed and now i need that urc-7541 to be able to control my dreambox (and a Onkyo reciever + philips tv) but i haven't got a clue how to start this new project.
Can someone help me on the way on how to achieve this?

Tia!

btw, my 7541 is a 1K model and the Dreambox seems to be a model V2.

Well done that several months ago but English isn't my native language so it's kinda hard spitting everything thru again.

But thanks for your advise, really helpfull,
that i didn't think of that, lazy me

Anyway, if someone could post what the steps i would have to make are, it would shorten things greatly.

Guess:
make a device code for the Dreambox and load that into the 7541?
Right or am i missing something?

Maybe if you mention what you native language is, one of our members who speaks that language can help you.

One of those stickies that Phil mentioned includes a link to this document, maybe this can help you (but it's in English):

I'm dutch,
it's not that i can't understand English,
it just doesn't make it easier.
Needs a lot more time to concur the whole thing.

I bought my 7541 secondhand and it looks like some things are already tampered with.
Have only one device 1068 in it with IR4.02
Almost nothing seems to work, only some stuff for the tv.
XBox device code 0522 doesn't work. :?
Perhaps if someone's got an original IR txt file for this remote i could at least begin as if it was new.
Anyway, perhaps the remote is fine and i am just too damn confused at this point.
Can't find my excel97 cd anywere either so i think i will have to find that at least to get things rollin.

I think i found some usefull device codes,
Onkyo_TX-SR601_RCVR-1135
Dreambox.txt
urc-7541.txt

But what to do without excel

But it's late here, so will try (to find) tommorow with a clear mind i hope.

And yes a working link would be nice

Sorry about the link, I just fixed it. Of course, you could have found the correct URL in the sticky threads! :)

If you don't have Excel, you should give the RM java program a try.

edit:
Chances are i indeed have to use RM,
feels a lot better now but maybe that's because i have upgraded my system.
Anyway, time to search for an RM howto.
But now, it's bedtime.

RM can open most KM device files.

Use the latest RM, then select File->Open. Change the "Files of type:" field to "KeyMapMaster device upgrade files"

As for a RM "how to", I will be creating one soon, but in the meantime you can use the KM "how to" as the principals are basically the same.

Well, i've got the dreambox sat reciever working as it should be now :D

I do have problems with the other devices though. :?
My Onkyo doesn't want to respond and the remote itself seems to hang (aux led stays on after pushing some buttons).
Perhaps it is needed to set the aux mode manually, hope so and will try that now.
Would i be better of using the VCR device button for controlling the Onkyo reciever?

Another problem is my Xbox,
i've found the setup code for some other remotes 0522 but it doesn't do anything.
Who knwos which code i should use for the xbox to respond?

Edit:
seems to be an compatibility problem with RM and the Device Combiner protocol.
Shame, seems i have to find my excel cd or wait till it's fixed in RM.

Pitty i have a 1K model, (btw how to know for sure?),
it's pretty fast filled up.
Anyway, i read that it is possible to split the Onkyo upgrade up into 4 seperate small updates.
Dunno how many keymoves that would take since there's not much room to spend.

If you're not just thinking out loud and actually want us to help you, you are going to have to provide WAY more info than that.

See also editted post above.

But your right Bob, sorry for thinking out loud.

I used the downloaded Onkyo_TX-SR601_RCVR-1135.txt
Which is exactly the right device upgrade.
It looks like i am having problems with the Device Combiner protocol.

Is it correct to say it's an RM compatibility problem?

Also the Xbox controls, what can i do about it?
Is there an device upgrade i could use or should it work with the 0522 setup code?

Any suggestions?

There is a problem with RM and Device Combiner. RM generates the Device Upgrade Code correctly, but the Protocol Upgrade Code is incorrect. For the Onkyo upgrade you are using, use the following instead of what RM generates:

Code: Select all

Upgrade Protocol 0 = 01 44 (S3C8+)
 00 00 22 08 06 96 10 04 90 05 6B 03 E4 05 0D 38
 04 2C FF E7 62 41 E7 32 40 E3 42 E3 52 1C 03 E3
 72 D7 17 1E A2 36 3B F7 97 01 FF 06 D9 02 56 8A
 EF C6 C2 16 55 70 C3 70 C2 C6 DA 0B 06 1F 0A A4
 45 4A 4F 54 59 00 5A 20 B4 49 00 5A 20 B4 C9 00
 5A 21 B4 49 00 5A 21 B4 C9
End
You can still use RM to customize the button layout and the generated Device Upgrade Code.
