I have a URC 600 (remote for Shaw Direct DSR630 PVR) with a 6 pin connector in the battery compartment. Looking at it it's labeled JP 1.4. Is this compatible with any of the other JP builds?

Not sure what you're asking, but let's check the signature of the remote. Use the 983 command. If it is a JP1.4 remote, the signature will start with a 3, and will have 5 digits. So check buttons 1 through 5 when following the 983 instructions.
If the remote doesn't have a Setup button, try holding the TV button until the remote blinks twice. Example for 990 command, showing the use of the TV button instead of the Setup button.
