Can't control Sony DA3400ES receiver using RM-VLZ620

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this or not...

I have a Sony DA3400ES receiver. I lost the remote for it a while back. Some functions of the receiver are only accessible via remote, such as entering and navigating through the menu system in order to do various functions. There are no menu buttons on the device itself. Remote is required.

I recently picked up a Sony remote RM-VLZ620. However, using this remote, I can only control the basic functions of the receiver. I can change volume, inputs, mute and thats about it I think. The menu button doesn't work. None of the other buttons do anything.

I thought it was just a control code issue. The default AMP Sony control code for the remote is: 82586

The manual lists the following other Sony AMP codes:
81058
81112
81158
81258
81441
81759
82586 (default)

I tried each one of these. None of them seemed to allow me to do anything but basic functionality on the receiver.

Is there something I'm missing here? It seems very surprising that Sony remote could not fully control a Sony amplifier...

That's not unusual at all for Sony universal remotes. Not much else you can do with it. If you get a JP1 remote, we can help you get every possible function for your amp. See the Remote Chart in the wiki link above for a list of JP1 remotes, most of which are under $25.
