Hello all,
I've just got yesterday my first JP1 remote. Aaaand... when I press and hold 'magic' as the manual instructs, simply nothing happens. I've measured, I've held it for at least 10 seconds, nothing blinks, everything remains dark. When I press device selection keys (tv, stb, dvd...) 'tv' becomes lit and blinks when I press the keys but that's all - the selection never moves from 'tv'.
The backlight seems to work fine if I press other random keys. There is no visible damage of any kind. The remote is brand new.
What am I doing wrong? I don't have fresh batteries, took them from another remote (that worked perfectly fine so far, but I know the batteries are at least a couple of years old), could that be a problem?

Weak batteries cause all sorts of behavioral problems. The setup procedures are a big consumer of power . The reflashing of the E2 area can fail with weak batteries. Low voltage is constantly tested for and makes the remote misbehave if low voltage is detected. This behavior usually protects the remote from damage that can happen in low voltage situations.
The other cause of wierd behavior can be a button that is stuck down.
My money is on the batteries.

Remember to provide feedback to let us know how the problem was solved and share your upgrades.
Tip: When creating an upgrade, always include ALL functions from the oem remote, even if you never plan on assigning them to a button. Complete function lists makes an upgrade more helpful to others.

No button seems stuck, and all make a normal click sound.
Is it possible to disassemble the remote? I don't see any screws or latches or anything...
Edit: woohoo, it works
First attempt at programming went flawlessly, found codes for my HK receiver in a couple of seconds.
Possibly redundant stuff everybody already knows: when holding the remote normally (JP2 connector on the bottom side), upper row are pins 2 4 6 from left to right, bottom row are 1 3 5. Next to it on the PCB are 8 unpopulated contacts marked JP3, maybe a JTAG?
Contacts on buttons are not the usual rubbery type, but some kind of metal foil. It looks like it will last longer time and protects better from dust and dirt, but also more difficult to repair shall that ever be needed.
