Latest IR Widget design needed

Post by PeteHarland »

Does anyone have details of the latest IR Widget? The one listed on the forum seem to be a prototype and I hear that Tommy Tyler’s unit is no longer available.

Unfortunately, Tommy never published exactly what went in -- in contrast to Kevin, who published firmware and board designs. However, the one I have is essentially the usb_simple design from Kevin's site: A small board marked T. Tyler, eqipped with a USB connector, an FT232RL chip for USB communication, the 12F629 PIC controller, and a wire to an QSE157 or -159.

I am going to build the comprehensive IR widget. Can anyone tell me the value of inductor L1? Also can anyone tell me what type of sensor is used for IRDEMOD1? I presume that the circuit uses IRDEMOD 1 or 2 and IRDET1, IRDET2 or IR LED D3.

Kevin is really the right person for this, but I will make a try.

If it was critical, there would have been a value... Kevin is extremely careful to filter the supply voltage, Tommy is not.
Also can anyone tell me what type of sensor is used for IRDEMOD1?
Basically anything TSOPxxyy, yy denotes the modulation frequency in kHz. Note that there are several different pinouts available, be sure that you read the data sheet before you plug in the soldering iron.

Need an explanation to "Choose one or none"? Do not choose D3.

You may also consider a more modern alternative to QSE15x, which has very short range, and is not 3.3Volt compatible.
