What kind of functionality do the ABCD keys have on your US equipment?

On the Sharp TV, these are operator-defined FAV channel sets - saved in the TV's memory, not the remote's (yeah, I can live without it, but it's handy)
On the HD-DVD player, numerous interactive features in the interactive HD-DVD are accessed via references to the A-D keys.

I think this remote is very attractive.
Although attractive, I find the button layout awkward. Setting aside the lack of a "D" button, the transport buttons near the top are just too far from the natural center of gravity for one's fingers to comfortably use them. The Atlas has the transport keys in a much more accessible location imho.

Ahh to have big hands! The only remotes that qualify for ease of use are the URC-7800 and the original URC-6131. I've gone to the two-handed remotes now. I wish URC would bring out something with a nice design like the 7800, with a few more buttons. Of course Rob and I disagree on that. He's a big 1994 devotee. In comparison with the OEM remotes, any UEI remote is wonderful, but UEI did have a really nice design in the 7800. All the keys were logically located. The number shaped keys made it easy to orient by feel. And there was no need to put down the beer to operate the remote! It was a one-hander! The current one-4-alls have that boxy feeling, half the time I'd have it pointed in the wrong direction. Actually the only time I use my 8820 is for capturing signals. To be a serious JP1er you need at least one UEI learning remote in your collection.

I should point out that this RDF is very preliminary, as many of the buttons are misidentified. I have not yet taken the time to verify/correct the various buttons' codes, although it uploads and downloads fine. I'll get around to it someday, but since this is not the remote I intend to use ultimately, I am focussed on getting THAT one sorted first, and not mess this one up until that time. Then when I have full functionality on my URC-1056 Atlas OCAP, I will wipe out the memory of this one and help finish up the rdf. Others who have a JP1.3 URC-7820 are certainly invited to do this, and not wait for me.
