Does anyone have a JP1 device file for the Barco BG 4000 video projector? The remote control at my former church is now missing and needs replacing.
I understand that all Barco projectors up till mid 2000 used the PPL remote codes, during 2000 the control codes were changed to the more common RC5 type as used by virtually all electronics now days. Very few learning remotes can deal with the PPL codes as they are in a high frequency band.
This projector is around a 2000 vintage, so I am not certain which type of remote coding it used. Does anyone know for sure? Can a typical URC-8820 handle the high frequency PPL codes?

There is one upgrade file dating from 2004 or earlier

I can't answer the PPL thing nor the frequency question.
8820 is NOT a jp1 remote. It appears to be a jp1.2 remote. _________________ Liz

There are a LOT of IR upgrades for LOTS of electronic devices in the files here, and I can assure you that the RC5 protocol is not used by "virtually all" of them. _________________ Beginners - Read this thread first

Thanks for the input. Some of my statement was actually a quotation from another site. The point being made was that there could be a frequency incompatibility. I already saw the one Barco file for an older CRT type and intend to try it. This projector is a 2000-2001 vintage LCD unit, so it is somewhat doubtful that they are compatible.
Since JP1 and JP1.x remotes use the same data files, I normally refer to them just as JP1 files. I realize that the interface is somewhat different, as I have both.
I was just hoping that someone had verified that the BG 4000 could be controlled. I have limited access to help the church in working on their projector, so I would rather not be in the guessing or trial-and-error mode.

If you have URLs for your source of information and/or "PPL" documentation, that would help.

The upgrade linked elsewhere in this thread is definitely NOT RC5.

That upgrade also does NOT use high frequency modulation. It is a high speed unmodulated signal. Many learning remotes are unable to learn high speed unmodulated signals, though such signals aren't as hard to learn as high frequency modulated signals.
JP1 remotes typically CAN learn high speed unmodulated and CAN'T learn high frequenct modulation. But since you don't have a remote to learn from, none of that really matters.
JP1 remotes can generate (via upgrade) both high speed unmodulated and high frequency modulated signals far beyond the level at which they can learn.

If you can find the info (such as the upgrade mentioned here) for the signals you want, I'm sure an 8820 could generate them (via upgrade). |
