Hi Guys,
This isn't quite what this forum is for, but I do need some computer help for my new JP1 toys.
I fried my serial port when I picked gave it a static electricty shock. The parallel port works fine.
I'd really like to have 2 serial ports on my computer. One for my IRSA and one for my JP1.x cable.
This is a 6year old Win2k machine.
Do I have to replace my parallel/serial card? I'm scared that when I do this my Parallel JP1 cable is not going to work? I'd be really bummed! I'm a real nervous nelly when it comes to hardware! I hate it!
Any guidance or recomendations? |

Some of the JP1 toys are not TRUE serial devices. Tommy played some tricks. I absolutely need a real serial port for my IRSA adaptor. |

do you have an ISA bus?
I think I may have an old ISA card lying around that I can give to you. It won't fit into a PCI only machine though.
If you open the box and see a bunch of slots where the cards go, PCI slots are white, ISA are usually black. |

Thanks UncleMiltie
Actually, now that I looked at the back a little closer it appears that the port that I burned is plugged into the motherboard.
I need is to know what kind of bus I have? How can I tell?
I can buy the card, but I'm going to put it in myself. I just afraid. I can follow directions.
I'm rather relieved to have figured out that my parallel port can remain undisturbed. |

Could it be just the RS232 level driver chip that is blown, but the controller is okay? Just replace thee driver chip then. |
