Is there some way to get the downloaded info from IR into KM so I can play with it? I've looked around the JP1 forums and group site and haven't seen this addressed. I'm totally new at this and can't figgure it out

What "downloaded info" are you referring to?
Basically, there's no (easy) way to go from IR back to KM. That's because KM is used to create the upgrades that get copied to IR to be uploaded to the remote. You can usually take Learned Signals decode information and use that to create an upgrade in KM.
