Rob,

I was merely attempting some humor. I have no doubt that the "creator" or (his "prodigy" -- {no disrespect intended, Mark}) can figure out what trouble his "child" has gotten into.

I was also implying that we are at your mercy, although I have not doubt that you will keep feeding your "baby" until it is old and gray and losing its mind ... but I digress. I also know that these things tend to be fun for a while, and later become just an extra job to do (I.e., you're stuck). {Mike, it is still fun, ... isn't it?}

I am a long way from being in any position to help, based on the limited information so far. But, I will help where practical should I achieve some level of proficiency in the future, and if other distractions don't take over my time. (Don't hold your breath).

I'll let you deal with real user issues a while before I bug you again for more intricate details (and maybe even the few hidden passwords).

Fred

... Just how dumb do you think I am? Yeah, maybe I am ... but don't call me little Mike.

I tried to LOAD the Sony DVP-S7000 key:

http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=691

with keymaster 9.07, but got an error message:

Quote:
This file does not appear to be a valid keymap-master Device Upgrade

Trying the few older versions of keymaster that I had copies of, I found it did still load in the 8.20 rev, but failed to load in the 8.40 rev. So I guess the incompatibility came somewhere between those revs.

Is this backwards compatability problem a known issue? Should I report this somewhere else? .... or post a Device Upgrade for the device that is compatible with 9.07 (I used copy/paste-special-by-value to migrate most of the data into a 9.07 based rev)?

You folks do GREAT work. I'm just reporting the issue to try to help.

Thanks,

Jim

I just tried and didn't get the error.

No known problems that I'm aware of. I just updated the upgrade file; can you try it to be sure it loads in KM without trouble?

I don't know about that upgrade in particular, but somewhere along the line, KM stopped being as backward compatible as it used to be, so the most recent versions of KM cannot open files created by the very early versions of KM. I have found that you need to open these old files with a version of KM from around the 7.xx era and then re-save it, which will make it compatible with the 9.xx versions.

I downloaded the updated DVP-S7000 file and verified that it now loads into 9.07

Thanks,

Jim

Thankyou thankyou thankyou! I was having trouble with an upgrade for the 6131 with KM 9.06. So I remembered the cardinal rule, Always check for updates. And there to my surprise and delight was a new version of KM with the fix I needed!

You guys rock!
