Probably because I get it free...
Anyway, I got a little cheap-o (no name, literally) CD/FM/AM bookshelf system for my garage (free, thank you, Office Depot) and, like any other IR device that makes it through my door, I have to learn the signals and make an upgrade for my increasingly large JP1 remote selection.
This little dinky remote has 4 buttons, I learned them, and IR (6.20) indicates AIWA, Device 32 (subdevice 1), and EFCs/OBCs that look normal.
I program the upgrade in KM (8.43), import the device into an 8811, only those buttons I've programmed operate, so I assume I've done good, but, no dice, the URC doesn't work (yes, the OEM remote does, POS that it is). I tried AIWA2 as well, still no go. Tried EFCs and OBCs with no luck.
Nothing in the Protocol notes looks of interest, so, once again, I'm stuck.
My IR file is here http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=3511 along with my programmed upgrade in the IR file. I learned the codes with long (TV device) and short (VCR device) keypresses.
My remote gives every indication it's got the codes right - the player just doesn't like them/it/me.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I think I've included all the relevant info here.

The first obvious question before anyone looks at your file is, do the learned signals actually work? _________________ Rob

Would Aiwa Combo do the job? There is subdevice in the learned signals and the upgrade has just 1 byte hex. _________________ Liz

Sorry, I knew I'd omit something!
Yes, the learned signals work fine in the uploaded IR file.

Tried it with "1" as the "byte 2", but no dice.
Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I would continue experimenting with the AIWA combo protocol. None of the protocol helps I've read address the EXISTENCE of a subdevice, and I would wager that THIS (properly using the SUBDEVICE info) is the crux of yor problem. The byte 2 column of the Aiwa Combo is pretty clearly for the DEVICE.
Perhaps using the subdevice ("1") as the "Parameter" on the Setup Sheet and the Device (32) as the Byte 2 number would work. _________________ Beginners - Read this thread first

OK. I just looked at protocol.ini in RM and RM treats Aiwa a little differently and HAS a separate subdevice field. Filling this in yields fixed data of A8 80 rather than 04 00 (or 04 01 for Aiwa2).
I suggest building the upgrade using RM vice KM.
Here is the upgrade code generated by RM (using your function to button assignments - by the way, what is OBC 0 - on Vol+ and Vol- ?):
Code: | Upgrade Code 0 = 20 3F (Misc Audio/0063) (RM v1.64)
5E 00 60 60 87 A8 80 00 00 60 C0 40 60 60 A0 C0
40
End | Try it and see. _________________ Beginners - Read this thread first

I'm sure you'll be as surprised as me to discover that this didn't work...
Thanks, though for the effort.

I haven't had a chance to dig into this one myself yet, but in case it helps, the device codes for the Aiwa protocol used to be treated as one device code (ie, numbers that go greater than 255) and that's how it was when KM was created. Since then, DecodeIR came along which treats it as 2 device codes (ie, a main device code and a unit code).
When the unit code is zero, the device codes in KM and DecodeIR are in sync, but when a unit code is present they are different. For a unit code of 1, you should add 256 to the device code if you want to use KM. So if your device code is 32, your KM device code would be 288. _________________ Rob

Well, as usual, Rob, you are "the man" with the Midas touch.
Worked like a champ - http://hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=3528
Thanks again, Rob!

Not to get too OT, but I get some funky stuff too, some for free.
Relating to IR and JP1, I have made an IR switcher using the IR system from an old satelite dish controller, fortunately having the original remote to learn to base a JP1 upgrade on.
I also have an RCA bookshelf stereo I got no remote with, and haven't found an upgrade for, that I'd like to. |

Post something in the Code Search forum, supplying as much info as you can (and using the template), who knows maybe someone has an upgrade you can use. _________________ Rob
