Howdy.

I'm trying to find a code to change speaker sets on my Sony STR-DE897. There isn't (as far as I can tell) a button on the original remote for this, but on the face of the unit there is a button that says "Speakers (OFF/A/B/A+B)." It toggles though each of those options. So I'm looking for a remote code naturally. Ideally I'd like discrete codes for each mode.

I don't see any obvious answers even on the Sony remote codes page (http://www.hifi-remote.com/sony/sony_home.htm). Frankly though I'm having trouble translating from those charts again.

There's actually a set of codes shown on that page under Sony:24 that have as commands "A On", "B On", "A/B Off." Those look promising but I'm not sure how to manually program a button for these codes. Can someone review that procedure for me? "A On" is command code 64, for example. How do I compute the EFC?

For all other remote functions I'm using an rmdu file for the SONY STRDE-895 which mixes codes from Sony12 and Sony15 and that works fine. It's supposedly defined as setup code 1158. Regarding the Sony codes charts is that an "A" device or a "B" device?

The codes posted are OBCs. Just enter them as OBCs in KM or RM when you build your upgrade.

Or even if you are NOT building a separate upgrade, and just want to make them via keymoves, plug them into KM (having selected the right Sony protocol) and it will calculate the EFCs and hex for you.

In IR, there is a "tools" menu, where you can find an EFC/OBC converter/calculator. You can use that, but it will give you four EFCs to choose from. Now the smart guys here can tell you whether the OBC to EFC translation LSB or MSB-comp or whatever, and then determine which of the four possible EFCs to use, but I'm not one of those guys, and I would just do what I suggested above.

For OBCs 64, 66, and 69, the EFCs are 34, 32, and 31, respectively.

But how do I know which Sony protocol I'm using? Also, could you be a bit more specific about exactly how to enter this as a KeyMove directly in IR?

I still haven't figured this out. Any thoughts about what I should try?

The codes listed on that page all use the regular "Sony" protocol with a device code of 24. The OBCs for the 3 functions are:

64 A On
66 B On
69 A/B Off

To test these, fire up KM (or RM if you prefer), then...
1) Select your remote (ie, URC-6131 w/extender)
2) Select the Sony protocol
3) In KM, select OBC mode
4) Enter 24 as the device code (leave the other device code blank)
5) Switch to the Functions tab
6) Clear out all of the default function names
7) Enter the 3 functions listed above and enter the corresponding OBC in the OBC column.
8) Switch to the Buttons tab
9) Assign these 3 functions to buttons using the drop down menus next to each button name.
10) Your upgrade is complete. Switch back to the Setup sheet to save it and to cut & paste the generated upgrade code over to IR.exe

11) In IR.exe, first download your current remote memory (or open a saved file), then paste the upgrade in the Devices tab, then assign it to a device button.
12) Load this into your remote and test the three buttons that you programmed.
13) If they work, you can copy them from the buttons where they are currently programmed to the buttons that you would actually like to use using the 994 command.
14) Once that is complete, download your remote's memory again and re-program the setup code for your receiver.
