I have just tried to install the extender2 for the 2117 remote. after installing it onto my remote is says success and the time is correct with my pc clock. Everything looks fine untill I try to use the remote. I have macros set up on the device keys to go to that specific device. when I push any one of them the remote goes into a loop and wont come out. I have to remove the batteries. I have looked in the macros and I dont see anything there that would cause this. I feel like I am learning to swim and can only dog paddle. Thanks for the help, Doug

Did you follow the instructions in the readme about creating, installing, and activating the extender? You cannot simply do a File|New in IR and select the extender RDF. You really need to use ExtInstall, or start with the supplied extender image.

Yes I downloaded the extender and followed it step by step. I have renamed old text and the news text and went to ir and uploaded it. after completion it does change the clock, says success, all the correct protocols are listed, some macros have changed. It appears that I got the extender to activate. I just cant use the remote with the extender installed. it goes into this loop that it wont stop. What should I expect after I install the extender? Should the remote work just like before unitll I modify for the purpose of the extender? Thanks for the quick reply, Doug

After the extender is installed and activated, it should work. Wink Did you setup the proper macros on the device buttons in order to use them?

You should upload your saved file from IR to the Diagnosis area, and post a link to it here so someone can take a look at it.

Confused What do you mean by proper macros? I made macros for the device buttons and they work. I didn't realize there may be a proper way to make the macro. That might be my problem. This is the 1st step of getting this extender to work and it seems to be a big one.- Thanks for the reply Laughing

As stated in the DEVICE SELECTION section of the ReadMe.txt file:

Quote:
To achieve simple device selection (no VPT, TPT or HT) and set the LCD, you would put an 8 command macro on each device key, for example the TV device key would have the macro:
DEV_TV; SET_TRANS_KEYS; SET_VOL_KEYS; SET_CHAN_KEYS; SET_MENU_KEYS; SET_PIP_KEYS; SET_OTHER_KEYS; SET_LCD

You must use the DEV_ and SET_ commands to configure the settings for each and every device button you want to use.

That might explain it. I just thought that it should work after I set up the extender and it wouldnt interfer with previous setings. Thanks, I will try it and see if it works.

While the extender offers tremendous flexibility over the basic remote, without that 8-step macro above, pressing the TV button would do nothing! The device buttons MUST be configured for the proper device and key selections in order to use them.

just4n, if you want upload your IR text file and someone can take a
look at it.

Sometime's people inadvertently add a recursive loop to their macros,
or it could be a multitude of other problems.

Ok, the remote is way smarter than me. I was able to get it to reconize and go to tv just by copying what you said. I went into the readme file and I thought I understood. I just tried a simple macro to turn off the tv. I tried several things. dev_tv;power, tv;power;0;3. and a few others. The tv wont turn on or off and when I put 03 in there( to turn it to channel 3 - the remote goes into its loop changing constently 030303030. Are macros different? The readme files dont seem to answer the easy questions. If I can get past this, I will be amazed! This is tuning into a hobby I wasnt expecting. Thanks

I think this is what is needed to tell me what I am doing wrong:

I didn't fully look at your IR file yet, but the first thing that comes to mind
is you may not realize the Macros have global scope (keymoves are local
scope to the device they were defined for, ie they are only active when
that device is selected)

You defined a macro:
Power = DEV_TV; Power

Since Power is a "global" macro, it ends up referencing itself, which goes
on ad infinitum.

I think you should start from scratch with a fresh unadulterated extender
file (don't transfer your device/keymoves/etc. to the extender) and just
define only the device code #s on the "General" page of IR.

Upload that to your remote, and work one step at a time from there.

If you want "Power" to do something special, you probably want to look
into a Device Specific Macro (DSM) for Power and also moving the "real"
Power EFC to shift-power so it won't be a recursive reference, but I
wouldn't start on that until you just have the basic extender loaded with
the device #s for your devices.

I assume the intent is to have a power macro that uses the macro function. I think this extender does "shift cloaking" in which case, as long as nothing is defined on the shift power key, you can change the macro to do DEV_TV; shift-Power.

If the extender doesn't have shift cloaking then you also need a KeyMove to put the tv power function on tv shift power.

Power is just one of several macros I want. I just thought that would be an easy start so I could see how the macro would set up so I could then set up others. I am very close to having my remote how I want it. I thought it would be cool to have the lcd display the device and possibe toadtogs?, for turning on and off the tv. Since I have installed the extender it looks like this may take hours or days to figure out. Thanks again for the time and effort, Doug

For future reference, you can simplify your keymoves a little.

It seems you want "Mute" to be TV mute for all devices (SAT/AUX/CBL)
You can either modify Phantom1 macro by appending
DEV_TV; SET_VOL_KEYS; DEV_CANCEL
or you can create a macro for "Mute" which will be global for all devices.

The first suggestion essentially gives you Volume Punch Through, but
you only defined keymoves for Mute, where as VPT would set Mute,
Vol+, and Vol-, to be that of the TV. The "Mute" macro would leave
Vol+- alone and only override "Mute"

With TV/Video[A/B] you might just want to create a single macro instead
of 4 keymoves.

Not sure if it matters to you, your Keymoves are referencing device #
TV/0156 (which isn't bound to any device) when it seems you are using
a modified TV/1156 which is bound to TV. This may be the way you
intended or it might cause confusion later on if you make changes to
1156 but don't see them taking effect.

I just did a keymove with the mute button. I dont use it to mute the tv, I actuall use it to select the pip. I use the the swap for replay and the move button for advance while watching for my 2 tivos, Thene for I use the other 4 buttons for pip while watching tivo. - Thanks, Doug
