So I'm trying to get my Sony STR-DE897 to work with the URC-6131 remote control. Out of the box I was able to get the power function to work with code 1758, but the input selection keys don't seem to all be mapped, and I don't know how to tell what they're mapped to anyway.

Also none of the upgrades in the file section match exactly, and the ones I've tried haven't worked.

I've been hunting around and found this regarding AV1 and AV2:
http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mboard/rc-sony/thread.cgi?4020
and wondered if it was relevant. I don't know what AV1 and AV2 are exactly. It sounds like they're remote control modes on the receiver.

My problem is I'm trying to find the input selection buttons for this receiver, specifically TV/Sat, and code 1758 doesn't seem to have this mapped.

Also, I wonder if I find an existing OFA code for a device, how can I get that data into RM so I can re-map buttons and make macros out of the functions?

Thanks!

In the Code Search section, there's a sticky thread entitled Sony Codes.

Generally the universal remote people (even Sony universals) map the input selection to the numeric digit keys. 0158 is the original Sony audio code but the receiver has to be in AV1 mode. Your owners manual should have the info on changing it. If you don't have a manual you can download it from here.

Thanks. But I still don't understand what this AV1/AV2 setting is about, or how I should proceed exactly in finding the right code and programming the remote. I feel like there is some basic information about how to program remotes with JP1 that I'm having a hard time finding. Like exactly what is the process, step by step, for loading the codes for my receiver and assigning them to specific buttons and/or macros I want on my remote? It seems awfully trial-and-error.

Have you read the beginners documents available in the sticky posts at the top of the beginner's forum? It would appear perhaps you have not.

You haven't even mentioned yet whether you have a JP1 cable.

Ok. I switched to AV1 mode and one of the rmdu files from the forum worked for me just fine. I've now got everything working just the way I want it to. Now all my devices work at least as well as they did with the original remotes. Macros work, the extender works, everything is super great.

Thanks for everybody's help.
