here is what the manual says about VPT

Volume Punch Through
You may be able to use some functions of your Television, Video recorder,
DVD player, Satellite receiver or Cable converter at the same time. For
example: if you are watching a program on your video recorder, you
can adjust the volume (a TV function) without pressing the TV mode key
on your ONE FOR ALL 4. The table below lists some of the possibilities.
Last Device Mode Key Pressed: You Can Control:
VCR TV volume up and down, mute
SAT TV volume up and down, mute
DVD TV volume up and down, mute
To punch through to TV volume while in the VCR, DVD or SAT
mode:
1. Press and hold MAGIC until the red light blinks
twice.
2. Press 9 9 3.
3. Then press the TV key and the red light will blink
twice.
To cancel the “Volume Punch Through” per mode:
(Example: to cancel the “Volume Punch Through” for the VCR mode)
1. Press VCR once.
2. Press and hold down the MAGIC key until the red
light blinks twice.
3. Press 9 9 3.
4. Then press the Volume (-) key and the red light will
blink four times.

Example: being in VCR mode, you will be able to control VOL+/- or MUTE
functions of your VCR (provided it has volume control).
To cancel the „Volume Punch Through“:
1. Press and hold MAGIC until the red light blinks
twice.
2. Press 9 9 3.
3. Press the Volume (+) key and the red light will blink
four times.

Do you have any other suggestion how I can get to the real button codes, except breaking the case open? I changed the the Buttons-Section in the RDF, all but the AUTO{Blue} are working ($21 was just the next free code)

Thanks Damir. I've updated the RDF to use those button codes.

seilae, the instructions that you posted show how to disable VPT for a single device. Could you try it and see what changes. If I've guessed correctly, the changes should be reflected in IR.exe.

I just tested the new rdf. The new button mapping is not working. I created an new iteration in RM and uploaded the update to the 7740.
The 7560 tells me that the button codes are not at the right place. What puzzels me is,that the button "6" is a key move in der update and contains the code from the button 7.

Thanks for getting those button codes from the PCB, that does confirm that the codes that Damir posted are correct for your remote also, so now we have the right button codes. But, getting the right button codes doesn't mean that we've got the right keymaps. There are 3 different keymaps in the remote, one per device mode (VCR and DVD share a device mode).

Sorry about the 6 button, I missed that code when entering the codes, so it's a typo. I just fixed it.

The numeric, volume and channel buttons should be right in all 3 modes, using the temporary keymap that I added to the RDF. So, the next step would be to do the experiments that you were doing earlier. That is, create 3 upgrades (one per mode) and then see where the functions really end up. Now that we have the button codes, I can actually use that data to create the keymaps.

As for the VPT, I think your tests show that I guessed correctly. When you made the changes, did you see them accurately reflected in IR.exe?

In short: all buttons in all devices are sending the correct codes now.

Really? That's surprising because I just created one keymap, with all the buttons in numeric order and assigned it to all 3 device modes. But that's great none the less.

I will give it a try with a real update for my vcr to test it.

The VPT in the ir.exe displayed correctly.

Be sure to create three upgrades, one in each device mode, just to verify that all three modes use the same keymap (which is unusual).

I did create 3 upgrades. The test with the VCR upgrade did not show any mismatch.
Next I will do an upgrade for the tv to test the VPT.

At this point, I'm not worried about the VPT, I'm more concerned about the keymaps for TV and SAT modes.

You can still use the upgrade that you created for your VCR, just save it as a TV upgrade, then save it as a SAT upgrade.

I've been following this thread and at the begining I think seilae did something that's really screwing up the results. I got the distinct impression that seilae just dumped the upgrade from the currenty use an URC-7560 into this urc-7740 and that's why the buttons are coming out in some kind of decent order. I tried to find where I got that impression, but its too much reading for me.

The idea of these being in numeric order is outside the of anything I've ever seen in these remotes!!!
