I can't get my 15-1994 to control NEW DVR40. I know interface is working because I can program other codes such as Apex for dvd, Sony for AUX1, Teac for CD. I had the cbl/sat button programed to control RCA ultimate tv but it died and I purchased this Directv DVR40. Here is what I have tried so far.

RCA and Hughes Directv Tivo DVR40 Unit Remote Code (1).txt
RCA and Hughes Directv Tivo DVR40 Unit Remote Code (2).txt
I get a message:
***The protocol below is REQUIRED for this upgrade***
2DEV Enter Main Device and Sub Device,optional unit code

If you're using an existing upgrade file, you need to be sure your remote is selected on the Setup sheet. If you still get that protocol message, then the Protocol Upgrade Code MUST also be copied and pasted into IR (Protocols tab) before uploading to the remote.

Did you get a remote with your DVR40? If so, you should learn some of them and verify what they are before you just try upgrades randomly.
