All:

I have been noodling around with using the Windows Media Center device code (Windows_Media_Center_with_740_support), and it works great. I am now using Girder together with the commands from the Windows Media Center device to also control another PC application (J River Media Center).

So, all is well, except that the J River application seems to need longer duration to receive the commands from my remote. By this I mean that when I just tap the remote in a normal fashion, the PC application only recognizes the command maybe 25% of the time. When I push and hold the command on the remote for .5 seconds or so, it works every time.

I remember reading in another thread that it might be possible for an expert to examine the protocol for the Windows Media Center device and provide advice on how to control the duration for that device code.

Any ideas on that? By the way, thank you so much for the hard work in creating that device code. Without that (and the JP1 in general), it would almost be impossible to effectively control all the devices I have. Cheers.

I just had a go at doing this for you. I should point out that I haven't tested this on a remote at all, so I have no idea whether it works or not.

If it works, this protocol code will repeat the signal 4 times before checking whether the button is held down or not. Assuming the code works, but is either not repeating long enough or too long, you can adjust it yourself by altering the 03 hex code that I've seperated from the rest of the code below.

The lowest value you can use is 01 (which will produce a minimum of 2 repeats) and the max is FF which will produce 256 repeats.

Good luck.

Rob:

Works great. For the other MS Media Center users here on the forum, changing the duration really improves the execution of the Media Center commands (as well as the J River application via Girder that I initially was concerned about). The 03 duration that you included in your code was just right.

Sorry I forgot to let you know what type of remote I am using (RS 2117) -- you obviously figured it out. Thanks again.

Well, ain't I bad! I'm impressed that that worked first time, because usually I have to test them a little to make sure they're doing what I want them to do.
