Cool price tracker.
Not worth hacking, assuming that's even possible. Just get a Vizio VUR8, Nexus or Atlas, all of which have about the same layout and capabilities and are all backlit. |

Does the Vizio VUR8 support 9XX codes?
Really don't like its style or layout, the double circle approach on the RCA is easier to remember/use without looking at the remote.
I've got a Cox branded Atlas somewhere but I need a real JP1 cable to code it - don't remember it being backlit. |

Nexus is the best of the lot, IMO. Nice size and layout. It's one of my favorites. |

I've noticed the 05BR is disappearing from WalMart. It's been replaced by the 04 and 06, which are not JP1 remotes. |

Actually if all you wanted was a simple backlight on a remote that didn't have one, all you'ld basically need to do is run a led off the battery pack with a on/off switch, placing the led underneath the keypad.
I don't really care about backlit remotes one way or the other. I don't have a problem with them, but I won't go out of my way to buy one either. |

I like the RCRP05BR. $7.00 US is a great deal. Amazon has them for $15.00 now.
I'm not familiar with the Nexus and I don't see it mentioned in the "Remote Chart" on the Wiki. Anyone have a link?
I plan to buy and configure a remote for my brother-in-law for Christmas. I'd like to look at the Nexus based on what mdavej said, but I've had good luck programming the RCRP05BR with its extender and may go with that one regardless. |

Nexus clone is the Inteset INT-422 on Amazon. It's also the same as the Insignia on the chart. |

Just stumbled onto this. Looks like Yangzhou Young Electronics Co. Ltd is the manufacturer for both the RCRP05BR and Inteset INT-422.
