|

I've just added one Radio Shack 15-100 remote to my list of remotes for sale. I modified it using these instructions. Asking price $50 (reduced to $30).
I bought two 15-100s, so once I've modified the other one I'll add it also.
You don't need a small opening adapter with this modified remote because the pins are on a cable that hides in the battery compartment.
Also, it will work with JP1.1/2 and JP1.2/3 cables because pin 5 is not connected. _________________ Rob

As it didn't sell, I will reduce the price on the modified 15-100 to $40.
I won't bother modifying the other 15-100 and will offer it for sale for $30, which is less than cost.
As there doesn't appear to be a market for modified 15-100s I won't be doing any more, so grab it while you can. _________________ Rob

Rob:
(1) do you still have the 15-100?
(2) do you have a plug adapter for a normal USB JP1.3 cable to connect to it? _________________ Beginners - Read this thread first

You shouldn't need the adapter with the modification that Rob did. Since the connecter that he installed is on the end of a wire in the battery compartment, you should be able to plug your standard connector right onto it. |

That's right, you don't need the adapter with these ones. I didn't use Tommy's kit, I used the earlier doc that he posted. _________________ Rob

I've just reduced the modified remote down to $30 and the non-modified one down to $20. _________________ Rob

What is up with these remotes? No one is interested in the ones I have modified with Tommy's cool upgrade. I still think that these are the best remotes that RS has made available lately and the extender works great. Why the complete apathy? |

I am surprised also. I sure am glad I decided to only buy two of them because I was toying with the idea of buying 10 or more. I won't be buying any more of them, that's for sure. _________________ Rob

There's alot to like about the 15-100, but here's my reasons for not wanting one: - It's big. I want to be able to use a remote with just one hand. And I have big hands.
- Although it has all the PVR keys, the layout isn't good for PVR use. The most used keys are navigation, ch +/- (for paging, not changing the channel), and transport. On this remote I would use Page +/- instead of Ch +/-, but the transport keys are too far away from the nav keys, and then the transport keys are arranged oddly.

I agree with greg, the remote is too big.
I'm still happy with the Atlas OCAP (especially the backlit one) as my primary remote. I used the 15-100 for a while as I was doing the extender, but dollar for dollar I'll take the OCAP.
But, if you're a fan of the older JP1 style remotes like the 8910 this is a great JP1 replacement _________________ this JP1 stuff is a sickness! |
