1. Device: Sony BDP-S790
2. Type of device: Blu-ray Player
3. Year: 2012
4. JP1/UEI Remote model: Cpmcast URC-1067BC4
5. Do you have a JP1 cable? Yes
6. Still have original remote? Yes
7. Checked the file section? Yes
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? No
9. Partially working setup code? http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=11069 & http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=25258
10. Learning remote question? n/a
11. Have you tried the JP1 Lookup Tool? No(?)
I've tried so many setup codes and at most I can get Play/Pause/Stop/FF/Rew/power/up/down/left/right/select to work.
No menus, return, options chapter fwd/back, audio, subtitle nothing else works.
This remote does use a 3D key as well that doesn't seem that common in a lot of the available files.
Any suggestions on this thing? |

I have just created a master list of all of the OBC codes from all the BD player upgrades in the file section:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=26695
If your player doesn't respond to the regular codes, except for the few that you listed, you should test all the OBCs in the range 0-127 to find the list that works for your player. _________________ Rob

Any of the existing 590 upgrades will also work fine. |

Search Sony in the DVD section. You can’t miss them. |

Oh, yeah.
I don't get the 3 variations, four protocol executors, subdevices and possible needs for upgrades. That's just over my head.
Can anyone provide directions to someone with minimal knowledge of these devices? Or at least specific details as it relates to the BD player and Comcast remote? |

What instructions are you trying to follow? I posted a link to an upgrade that might work for you, all you need to do is load it into your remote and try it? _________________ Rob

I'm talking about the Protocol Notes in the .rmdu file:
Quote: | There are 3 variations of the Sony protocol: Sony12, Sony15 and Sony20 and there are four protocol executors for these in various combinations. Examine closely your requirements (and which will require protocol upgrades in YOUR remote) before choosing which one to use. If there is a subdevice then it has to use Sony20. If there is no subdevice and the device is greater than 31 it has to use Sony15. If there is no subdevice and the device is 0 to 31 it almost always uses Sony12 but might use Sony15. (NOTE: If you have a decode that shows a sequence of 3 repeats of Sony15 36,96, followed by three Sony8 entries and one more Sony15 entry, you need the Sony DSP protocol) Sony 12/15 allows you to combine two different Sony12 and/or Sony15 device numbers. Sony 20 allows you to combine one Sony20 device/subdevice with one Sony12 device. Sony Combo (12/20) allows you to combine any number of Sony12 devices with ONE Sony20 device/subdevice. Sony Combo (12/15/20) allows you to combine as many Sony12 and Sony15 codes as you like with up to 4 Sony20 devices. Sony20 Instructions: Enter the Sony20 Device and SubDevice on the Setup tab, and the Sony12 Device if you will be using Sony 12 functions as well. Enter the OBC for the function as normal, then choose the signal type (Sony20 or Sony12) in the Type column. |

So, Sony is one of those brands that likes to mix 'n match their codes, they will use a combination of protocols and device codes, so all we can do is try to support it so that consumers will be able to create upgrades that work their devices.
But in this case, all of the buttons for their Blu-Ray players use the Sony20 protocol with device code 26.226, and that's what the upgrade that I posted for you uses. So this is a case of "don't try to over-think it", just load the upgrade and see if it works. If it only partially works, list what buttons work and which ones don't. If that is the case, I will give you some tools to try and find the rest of your buttons, but I won't fill your mind with those details yet, let's cross that bridge when we get there. _________________ Rob

Sigh. Thank you.
Yes that worked, and probably so would the other upgrades I tried.
While setting it up this time I clicked past the key moves tab and noticed a lot of the Aux buttons had moves from a device that isn't even present in that setup. They were a hold over from a previous DVD player.
Yup, I'm an idiot.
I did add 3D (EFC=159), 15s advance (EFC=063) and 10s repeat (EFC=065). Also mapped a few keys that were unused by default, removed some buttons that weren't needed and rearranged a few, but everything works great now.
Thanks again for getting me there. I've actually been trying this on again/off again for a couple years and never found that mistake. |

Glad it worked, does your player respond exactly to the codes from the S590 upgrade? Check that spreadsheet that I posted earlier to see if you think any of those button codes might work on your player. If you come up with something new, you could post an upgrade file for the S790. _________________ Rob

The codes work perfectly without needing to modify them.
It's just some included buttons aren't on my BDP's remote, and the three I listed (3D, advanced, repeat) needed to be added since they were missing. |
