I finally need to convert over to Win 10, and of course my JP1 Delcom USB cable does not work.

I followed the clear steps in the “Legacy Interface Cables and Windows 10 build 1809” by Vicky (thank you, this was excellent) on 2 PCs running the latest version 10.0.19044. I verified the USB IO Controller under Universal Serial Bus Devices “pops-up” when the cable is plugged in, and the registry contains {cafa8e93-7c32-4c27-b088-d8c36aaf4ebf} for DeviceInterfaceGUID in the Device instance path of the controller. But in IR (v8.03) with a remote connected (good batteries) I get “Failed to open JP1.x interface” on both PCs (I also tried RMIR on one PC, with similar issues).

One interesting observation is both of my PCs have a DeviceInterfaceGUIDs (note the “s”) in the registry which was not in the example snapshots.

Suggestions??

You are using very old software I suggest you try the new program and you may need to install/update Java

Thank you, but the RMIR I tested with on the one PC was version v2.14.15. I'm so use to IR, I didn't mention that. So, for completeness, I tried RMIR (v2.14.15) on both PCs and attempted a download from the remote and got the "No Remotes Found" message.

Other suggestions?

I found this, too, when testing Win10 with my Delcom cable. You need to delete that entry and just leave the entry without the "s" that you will have created according to Vicky's instructions.

If you still can't get the Delcom cable to work, I would suggest using an Arduino Nano or clone to interface to your JP1 EEPROM remotes. All the instructions are in the subfolder JP1EEPROMSupport in your installation folder for RMIR v2.14.15. As far as I am aware, that is the only way still available for connecting to these original JP1 remotes.

I was hoping that would be the case, but unfortunately it did not seem to help.

If there are no other suggestions, I'm intrigued by the Arduino idea. Although I do not have (or use) true "Arduinos", I love working with ESP32s and 8266s which run Arduino code. So, I'll give that a shot! Thanks.

Did you try a restart after deleting the DeviceInterfaceGUIDs entry? I recall that I had some trouble getting it working, and a restart should not be necessary, but it was.

If you try the Arduino route, please let us know how you get on.

Bad news: I did do the re-start, and it didn't help.

Good news: I did the Arduino route with an 8266. I needed to re-arrange the code a bit since I use Platform IO instead of the Arduino IDE, but after some fidgeting I built a new cable that worked great.

I'm up and running with RMIR on Windows 10!!

Thanks, I had not come across this. It was a great suggestion that was right up my alley.
