That's not the case. It's not even on the system drive. It's in D:\Documents\RemoteMaster which isn't protected.
RMIR itself isn't on the C: drive either.
It's in D:\Downloads\RMIR.v2.12.0-bin .
That's where I ran setup.vbs from. I start RMIR from the start menu.
I'm using Java 8 update 261 64-bit on Windows 10.
RMIR is version 2.12.0 .
Which version of RMIR/RemoteMaster are you using ?
Did you take a look at the Youtube video I posted ?
Thanks. I'll use that tip. But that doesn't explain the problem I'm seeing with the X10 lights component which isn't about soft buttons. In that case I'm assigning to yellow / blue buttons. And those aren't being preserved across saves, or sending any signal when flashing to the remote.

One more slightly shorter video showing problems again.
https://youtu.be/kjN2PqbYtLU
I'm starting from the file Robman sent earlier in this thread at
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=26092
1) examining assignments
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjN2PqbYtLU&feature=youtu.be&t=0m22s
In the buttons tab, I can see that the Soft6 button points to the Marantz Helper device and Blu-ray key.
2)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjN2PqbYtLU&feature=youtu.be&t=0m31s
In the layouts tab, I delete the assignment for soft6 using the delete key
3)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjN2PqbYtLU&feature=youtu.be&t=0m38s
In the layouts tab, I reassign soft6 by dragging the blu-ray button.
As you can see on the top right of the remote, "Device", "Function" and "Alias" strings remain blank. That looks like a display bug
4) Once I click another key and back on soft6, those fields show "Marantz Audio", "Blu-ray" and blank. They don't point to "Marantz Helper"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjN2PqbYtLU&feature=youtu.be&t=0m40s
5) I go to the "buttons" tab
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjN2PqbYtLU&feature=youtu.be&t=0m48s
It shows the Soft6 button points to Marantz Audio/Blu-ray, not Marantz Helper/Blu-ray
I then press OK at the bottom right to go back to the main RMIR screen
6) I reopen the "Marantz audio" device
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjN2PqbYtLU&feature=youtu.be&t=1m01s
I scroll down to soft6 and get display corruption.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjN2PqbYtLU&feature=youtu.be&t=1m02s
7) I go to the layout tab and click soft6
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjN2PqbYtLU&feature=youtu.be&t=1m13s
It now shows device as "blank" for that key on the top right of the remote. But "function" still says "Blu-ray"'.
I then press OK to go back to the main RMIR screen
8) I save the RMIR file under another name, sr7011_learned_renamed2_test.rmir
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjN2PqbYtLU&feature=youtu.be&t=1m21s
9) I reopen the same file I just saved
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjN2PqbYtLU&feature=youtu.be&t=1m34s
10) I go to the layouts tab and click soft6 . It is now unassigned again.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjN2PqbYtLU&feature=youtu.be&t=1m45s
This all seems pretty FUBAR to me. If it was just display bugs, I could deal with it. But it also affects the functionality, to the point I really can't use the external functions successfully at all. I have not found any kind of workaround. |

When you want to assign external functions, from the Helper upgrade, to buttons, first change the selection at the top to the Helper upgrade.
Up at the top, there is an item called "Select items to show" and below it is a radio button labeled "Functions for device", select that, that in the drop down next to it, change it from "Marantz Audio" to "Marantz Helper", then assign the functions to buttons.
As I mentioned before, I've never programmed external functions before, and I think I misled you with the part about entering them on the External Functions tab first, I don't believe that's necessary.
I have programmed your file per how I believe you were trying to do it on your YT video here, see if it works:

In return, could you tell me how to make a video of your desktop? _________________ Rob

I am completely confused as to what screen I should do the above.
From the main RMIR screen, I went to the Marantz helper and clicked "edit". Is this what you wanted me to do ? At the top, I don't see anything that says "select items to show" or any radio button. I see tabs :
Setup
Functions
External Functions
Buttons
Layout
Key map
output
Finally figured out that you meant for me to do this in the "Layout" tab.
I had never noticed this "functions for device" drop-down somehow ! Or the macros radio button. I was using macros only as part of the "Activities" tab.
When I use that, indeed, I don't see any of the problems I mentioned earlier. I knew you must have been doing something wildly different than me in order to create the file you sent me earlier (and the newest one).

Yes, it looks like not only is it not necessary to use the external tabs, but it creates a whole bunch of problems I ran into. I'm very glad entering signals by hand isn't required.
Thank you very much, once again. It works perfectly fine !

Certainly. I'm using Cyberlink Screen Recorder. The version I have is from PowerDirector 16 ultimate that I bought years ago. It only captures up to 1920x1080 resolution, so I had to change the resolution of my center monitor down from UHD to 1080p before I captured. Otherwise, it would still capture, but 3/4 of the pixels would be missing and text would be unreadable.
There is a free version of Screen recorder at
https://www.cyberlink.com/downloads/trials/screen-recorder/download_en_US.html
Looks like all features are enabled for 30 days. After that, only non-premium. The only feature I see in the premium list that I would miss is :
Highlight mouse clicks to capture the attention of your audience (Premium)
You can see the highlights on mouse clicks in my videos.
Thanks again,
Julien |

Just FYI, that section that I mentioned is at the top of BOTH the Layout and Buttons tabs in RM. _________________ Rob

Yes, I see it now, thanks.
I hope the problems I reported when trying to use the other methods for external functions are fixed. |

I don't completely understand how the External Functions tab is supposed to work, so I don't know if it's working properly or not. _________________ Rob

I don't claim to understand it either. But I hope the author can glean enough information from my posts in this thread, as well as the videos, to fix the various issues with things like button tab not displaying, and key assignments not sticking across saves. |

I'm pretty certain External functions don't work on Xsight/Nevo. I've never used or understood them either. At the very least, that tab should probably be disabled on this type of remote. I wonder if an RDF parameter could be used for that. |

For those of us who do not like tryware/crippleware there are alternatives:
Windows 10 comes with a recording feature in its gaming panel (Win-G). Unfortunately, when I tried it it just said that my hardware is not capable enough... (on two different computers).
There are also high-quality free software for screen recording. Probably most well known and powerful is OBS Studio. Many video-tutorals exist. |

Thanks. I tried OBS Studio. I have to say the software is very complicated to use. I couldn't figure out how to do a capture with it within 5 minutes, whereas it is very obvious how to with the Cyberlink one. I'm sure it's much more powerful and has more features than the Cyberlink program, but in this specific case, simplicity really is important, at least to me, YMMV. |

I have used Cyberlink a couple of times now since MB posted it, and it is indeed very easy to use. _________________ Rob
