Your tests seem to indicate something is wrong with the VCR device button as it seems to accept the setup codes 0539 and 0631 but does not operate the respective DVD device. You could use the MAGIC-990 to verify it is using the actual setup code you entered. You could also try a MODE change on the SAT or AMP device buttons and then try using 0539 or 0631 on these device buttons.

Also, after doing a MODE change, the setup code will change to the default for the new device mode. For the TV mode it is 0556, For VCR mode, it is 0081, for DVD mode, it is 0533, for SAT, it is 0847, for AMP, it is 1658. For example, if you do a MODE change on the SAT button with the src mode as VCR, the setup code on the SAT button should now be 0081.

After doing the MODE change, use MAGIC-990 to verify that the device button has the above default setup code on it. After that, program your new device setup code onto the device button and again verify that using MAGIC-990.

Excellent suggestions, thanks.

I'll try to get time to work through those tomorrow.

Hey folks. Sorry for not replying back sooner.

Well, it's all sorted. I think the problem was something to do with the fact that the remote can only accept between 25 and 30 (or thereabouts) custom commands (i.e. learned functions). I think I hit that limit, and this stopped the remote learning things, apparently even including new "whole mode" changes.

I got a new Toshiba TV today, so decided to wipe the remote (back to defaults) and try again - seeing as I needed to make changes to the remote's programming anyway. And everything seems to work now. The Philips DVD player works in the DVD mode, and the Pioneer DVD Recorder works in the VCR mode (I didn't have to do the mode emulation thing either).

I have put all my custom commands back into the remote for all required additional functions, and so all my devices are now controlled from the one remote.

Thanks again for all the assistance. Hopefully this thread will be of use to someone else.

I guess the moral of the story is that if it's not working, reset it and start again! Bit like rebooting a PC? :D

Cheers.
