Yesterday, the A, B and C buttons on my Comcast remote (silver, red "OK" button) stopped working. B and C appear to do nothing, and 'A' is now programmed to switch the DVR to the auxiliary input. I have tried resetting the remote to factory settings, and I've tried manually reprogramming them with the following steps, using the codes on this site:

1. Hit 'cable'
2. Hold down 'Setup' until cable button blinks
3. Enter 994
4. Hit 'Setup'
5. Enter '00077'
6. Push 'A' button

This makes it so that 'A' does nothing as well. This is a problem because without the use of the 'A' button, I can't navigate through Comcast's menu to delete items from my DVR. Any advice that helps me avoid having to go to my local office and replace the remote would be greatly appreciated.

On my Comcast remotes, A is EFC 00081.
B is 00174
C is 00178.

How did you reset the remote? The as-received remotes have a 1376 upgrade loaded, and a 981 will erase the upgrade. Here's the contents of the official Comcast upgrade in case any other buttons don't work right.

Thank you for the response, but I am not having any luck. I have tried resetting the remote using both 980, and when that did not work, 981. I wonder if it's because my Comcast office using Scientific Atlanta DVRs instead of Motorola DVRs? My STB is a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HDC.

Yeah, so basically I am an idiot. Still have no idea how the remote got cleared to begin with, but I managed to dig up the 8300HDC codes and have reprogrammed A, B and C to work properly. Now I'm wondering if the 8300HDC supports 30 second skip like the Motorola box does, and if so, what the EFC for that is? I never realized how customizable these remotes were until I started looking into my original issue.

Well, maybe you should change the title of this thread!
Of course that matters.

Ok, first blink back the setup code assigned to cable using the 990 command. It should be 01877.
If it isn't, the use the 982 command to unlock the CBL setup code and assign 01877.

The Comcast remotes have an upgrade for 01877. Just in case, here are the EFCs:
A{Lock} 117
C{Day+} 054
B{Day-} 058
9XX instructions
Finally, consider editing you post so that you don't waste page space by quoting a table of EFCs.

SA boxes do not have /support 30 second skip, but a lot of them have PIP enabled, which is nice if you don't nave a TV with it built in and like to use it.

I am visiting my daughter, who has a Comcast SA box (left over from TWC), and she will have to make the decision to keep it for the PIP, or get the new Motorola box with the big HD and 30 second skip..

Some of the boxes respond to two different codes, where one code supports the 30second skip and the other doesn't. You might want to check out this thread.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no 30 second skip on ANY Scientific Atlanta DVR.
You are right about Motorola. Some boxes support it some don't....
