|
|
I am looking for a new remote and the 6131 has been suggested, especially since I am avid user of a Directv Tivo. However, the one feature I am especially looking for is the ability to control or switch the input source for the tv and a/v receiver. I am pretty sure the stock 6131 does not have this ability. However, I am hoping that a modified 6131 might be programmed with these capabilities, so that I can switch between the various tv inputs (i.e., component 1, video 1, video 2, etc) and the various a/v receiver inputs (dvd, cd, video 1, etc).
Does anyone know if the 6131m can be programmed with this ability? My tv is a Panasonic 36HX41 and my receiver is an Onkyo TX-SR600. I know that a Harmony remote can be programmed so that it automatically sets the tv and receiver to the appropriate inputs, but it doesn't work well with tivo.
If this is not possible with a 6131m, can anyone suggest a remote that has this ability and which would work well with a tivo unit?
All help is appreciated.

If any remote can do it, the 6131m can.
In my opinion, I think the abilities you require are more dependent on the devices rather than on the remote. If the devices have discrete input selection codes, the 6131m can be taught to send them.
One thing that might help is if you were to obtain a learning remote and learn some codes from the original remotes and post the results here. To do this you will need a JP1 cable and the IR.exe program. The 6131m is a great remote, but you might also want to keep an 8810w in a drawer just for the few times you need to learn a few codes from an original remote to set up a device upgrade for your 6131.

Thanks usblipitor,
I will probably order a 6131m, as well as a 8810w if I can find a Walmart in my area. I guess I'll be venturing into the world of JP1. |

I just wanted to make sure you realize that the 6131 cannot be used jp1 out of the box. You have to solder in eeprom and pins.
You can buy one premodified from rob. Maybe that is what the m in the 6131m means in your title. If it is well nevermind. _________________ Stupid is forever
