|
|
The Notes in the KM file for the Replay device based on Panasonic
protocol seem to imply you could use Panasonic protocol to control
multiple Replay's by changing the "unit code"
"The first device code is in fact the unit code_ so change this to
a different value if you wish to control multiple units."
I've changed the "Main Device" and it doesn't seem to have any
effect. All my Replay's still respond to the remote regardless of
what I set it to.
I was able to get the VCR/1614 device based on Replay(Advanced)
protocol to individually control my units, but no luck with the Panasonic
protocol.
Am I overlooking something? Is it possible to control specific unit #s
with the Panasonic protocol?
Thanks in advance. |

I believe that you can only use the Panasonic protocol to control multiple Replays if the Replays are 4000 or 5000 series, it definitely doesn't work with 2000, 3000 or Showstopper units. _________________ Rob

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm using 5k series and I've setup the
unit code using menu->setup->243-zones and reboot the unit afterwards.
I was able to control multiple units using the device based on
Replay(Advanced) protocol.
I tried the same thing with the device based on Panasonic protocol,
but all the units continued to respond regardless of which unit code
I entered. I figured maybe I was changing the wrong field but I
didn't get around to trying the others. The one I was modifying
was "Main Device"
Either that, or the Panasonic protocol doesn't work anymore. Is
everyone using the hacked Replay protocol to control multiple
replays or are some people using Panasonic protocol?
I'm using 5.1 build 19 OS on the Replay. |

Generally yes, we are all using the hacked protocol for multiple Replays. Somebody. I think it was Mark Pauker, reported that you could change the main device code when using the Panasonic protocol with one of the newer Replays a while back, which means it was probably with the 4000 series. I did confirm that it didn't work on my old units, but I haven't tried it on the one 5040 that I've got. _________________ Rob

Well, I gave up on Panasonic protocol and switched to 2116ex2 and
a device based on hacked replay protocol. All seems to work fine now.
I can individually address all my units.
Finally, I can now work around the "double select" bug in the Replay http
remote by using the 2117 RF repeater. |

What is the "double select" bug, and what's a "Replay http remote"? _________________ Rob

On a 5k, possibly 4k too, you can control your replay remotely over your
LAN (or over the internet) using http requests which will generate
results "as if" you had pressed the corresponding keys on the remote
control.
In version 5.1 OS (for 5k series) they added an easter egg to get
visual feedback for your actions in the form a screendump.
http://replayIP/screendump.bmp?sync=1
When you combine the two you get a pretty functional http-based
remote control for your unit.
See here for java version which compresses the bitmap

See here for simple HTML version with minimal setup

The one quite annoying issue is with http remote, on the Replay and
Channel guides, many times when you press "select" it registers
(on the server side) as 2 consecutive "selects".
This makes it impossible to get the popup menu to delete a Replay
Channel in the Replay Guide since it immediately goes into "Change
Record Options" instead of giving you a popup menu where you can
navigate to "Delete"
I'm using http remote to control the other Replay's in the house and
when I encounter a situation where I would be affected by the
"double select" bug, I use the 2117 RF repeater (with unique unit
addressing from hacked replay protocol) to register a "select", then
go back to using http remote.
In particular I find this most useful for my PVR farm units which just
sit in a closet recording and don't have monitors attached.
I was going to use the 2117 RF repeater for everything, but I find it
sometimes becomes unreliable if lots of key presses are necessary
and/or the distances become farther, whereas the http remote is
very reliable, just it suffers from "double select" bug. |
