Good morning party people,

Yesterday I had to make a road trip to pick up my old Adcom amplifier (not remote controllable <G>) from the electronics spa and there's a Goodwill about half a mile away that I've had good luck with, so of course I stopped. I found a JVC TD-W354 still with the original box, manuals, cables, warranty card, etc. I really didn't want it but there was also an old Beyer Dynamics ("Made in W. Germany"!) microphone also in the box, and it was marked $9.95. SOLD

Well guess what, it cleaned up fine, really looks NOS, and after some excessive scrubbing of the pinch rollers and capstans actually plays OK. So now I have a tape deck that I didn't want (I just bought a Tascam 122-B to restore to go with the Adcom system) but of course I can't resist playing with stuff. This has a "Compu-Link 3" connection on the back of it which actually looks just like a wired remote connection that I've used with success on the back of an Oppo BDP (in this case, I used the IR receiver/repeater for my Luxman TP-117; I'm thinking I could try that as it appears not to be powered by the preamp, but by an internal 9V battery, and provides a handy 3.5mm hardwired IR output. I didn't use a blaster, I just plugged a cable into the back of the Oppo et voila; I was able to simply replace the program for the broken Luxman CDP with the Oppo BDP-105 and everything worked.) Makes me wonder if one knew what one was doing, could one just plug in an IR receiver/repeater and then remote control it that way, without the matching JVC receiver? Assuming of course one got the protocol and codes correct. It would seem that you could do any compulink component if you knew the codes as well, replacing the JVC receiver with an IR receiver/hub with multiple 3.5mm outputs.

I found this page https://github.com/jcj83429/jvc_compulink which makes me think if one were just a little smarter than I it should be possible. T/F?
