I use, happily, IRscope v2.01 beta3, .exe file is April 2010.
Vicky's user guide is from 2011.
Tommy's widget.
On XP, FTDI drivers are v.2.6.0.0 from 2009. Do they work in Win7-64 bit by any chance?
It looks like IRscope v2.01a is more current, .exe is Sept.2012.
Will upgrade buy me anything?
Will I have to change the drivers?
Is there a change list regarding stuff such as the 5sec initial timeout and 15sec max? _________________ Liz

Liz,
I use IrScope 2.01a on Win 64 bit. The FTDI drivers are version 2.10.0.0, and they are easily obtained from the FTDI website. I did not find that Win7 would automatically install them. Be sure to use the x86 (32 bit) version of DecodeIR.dll from your RMIR installation folder. If you use the 64 bit dll, IRScope will silently terminate.
Capture time is still from 500 to 15000 mSec. |

Liz, the only difference between v2.01 and v2.01a of IRScope is that v2.01a has full support for the FT230X chip from FTDI, which was used in Tommy's final widget design instead of the earlier FT232R chip. That was a new chip design from FTDI and does require new drivers. IRScope displays a message if your widget does need newer drivers. I cannot recall what changed between v2.01 Beta 3 and the final release.
There is no point in starting a wish list for IRScope as I have no intention of revising it further. The widget will also work with Barf's IRScrutinizer software, but I have never used it and so know nothing of its capabilities. _________________ Graham |

Can I use the IR Scope with LIRC (RS-232) device (from SkyStar2 DVB-S PCI card):
and with Irda motherboard + WinXP Msports.inf mod?
mod
RCExplorer works well with the LIRC device
IRAssistant, PC Remote Control, uICE, Serial Watcher work ok with Irda device. |

Kevin wrote IrScope to support his hardware project IrWidget. It did not support any other IR hardware (strictly speaking, there is support for a (heavily) modified "MiniPov3" too...) It does not support any other hardware.
IrScope is not maintained any more. Have a look at IrScrutinizer for a modern alternative.
IRDA is a technology that is solving a completely different problem from the one we are dealing with in this forum, called Consumer IR. It is essentially extinct from modern devices. |
