We generally like to just use learning to capture signals from the original remotes, so we can make upgrades, or to fix situations like yours with the repeating buttons. For all other things, it is preferred to use proper upgrades as those generally create better signals than learned signals. Think of it like playing a digital CD versus an audio cassette tape that you recorded from your CD using a microphone in an open room.
Anyway, you've expressed an interest in learning how to do things here, so why not take this opportunity to edit the 2239 upgrade in your remote, all you need to do is go to the Functions tab and enter the correct OBCs for the volume and channel buttons.
