Normally with air conditioners, the remote signal is really long because it has every setting encoded into it, that's how the remote can tell you what the temp is, the fan speed, etc etc without really having a 2 way conversation with the A/C itself.
Looking at these signals, that appears to be the case here too, but with just three samples, I can't tell you what all the settings are.
Here's what your 3 samples look like in binary:
select
11000100 11010011 01100100 10000000 00000000 00000100 11000000 10010000 00000000 00000000 0001
up
11000100 11010011 01100100 10000000 00000000 00100100 11000000 11100000 00000000 00000000 0001
down
11000100 11010011 01100100 10000000 00000000 00100100 11000000 11000000 00000000 00000000 0001
where:
1 = +500 -1200
0 = +500 -400
I would suggest that you test some of the A/C upgrades from the file section to see if any of them work:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=category&cat_id=105
As for getting the pronto hex, you can get that from IR.exe, but remember, these aren't really select, up and down, they're signals that will set the A/C to particular settings.

HI Rob, hope you can help:
Reopening this thread as I have acquired a second A/C (Keeprite DLCDHR12K1A1) and would like to finish this project:
Ultimately, the minimum I would need is "ON" (at 20Celcius) and "OFF" for both A/C's in Hex/Pronto as I'll be using USB-UIRT to transmit commands, so no need for a full protocol.
here's what I have:
For both A/C I have learned some codes to a URC-9910
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=25289
DVD 1 = TCL Off
DVD 2 = TCL ON
DVD 4 = Keeprite Off
DVD 5 = Keeprite On
The TCL doesnt respond to the learned signals, but the Keeprite does; the ON command contains the temperature (23C in this case).
I have also learned the same codes to USB-UIRT but none works when transmitting (the signal is very short when learning via USB-UIRT and I have to manually ask the app to save as it doesn't see it as complete)
TCL Off

Let me know if you can help generate valid Hex codes for either one of these AC's. The Keeprite looks promising...
Thanks in advance and I am available to run any test you want.
The Pronto Hex codes I have provided above, which doesn't work, are the ones I have learned directly on the USB-UIRT.
However, the signals learned on the URC-9910 (IR file provided), do work;
I've tried the binary below but still doesn't work;
Have you converted from the IR file I provided (URC-9910 learned DVD codes 4 and 5 which works) or from the Hex codes (USB-UIRT learned but doesn't work) ?
Thanks for the prompt reply. |

Ah, the hex came from the USB-UIRT? I assumed it came from RMIR or IR.exe, have you tried using the hex generated from the URC-9910 learns?
Here's the Pronto hex from the URC-9910 learns:

If the TCL learned signals don't work, even from the URC-9910, it's possible that they are cut off. I do see that they are all one-time learns (ie, there's no repeating section), so them being cut off (for being too long) is a possibility.
If you want to see if that is indeed the case, the best that I can suggest is that you buy an IR Widget. Tommy Tyler sells these for $42 shipped.

Ref above email trail/incomplete signal to decode.
Is there any other product equivalent to the IR Widget ?
I's be willing to buy one to decode my second A/C remote signal but seems like Tommy Tyler doesn't ship to Canada...
I'll reach out and see if he'd be willing to make an exception but let me know if I have other options. Thanks! |

What are you still trying to do? Re-reading this 5 year old thread, it looks like you were trying to get Pronto hex that you could use in your USB-UIRT, and in the last post you posted all the Pronto hex, so I am confused as to what your current goals are. _________________ Rob

I have two A/C units, I was able to decode one (Keeprite - codes above)
However I was unable to decode the other unit (TCL), seems like the IR stream is longer than I can capture with my URC or USB-UIRT. probably a format where all data (mode, temperature, etc) is embedded in each IR stream (like you described earlier in the thread). As per you recommendation, I'd like to try the IRwidget to successfully capture/decode this remote. I have some free time in the coming weeks to accomplish this. Any advice is welcome. As a last resort I could even mail my remote to someone who owns an IRwidget and willing to help. Thx. |

That's the problem with having a single thread on 2 unrelated subjects, it gets confusing.
I have split the Keeprite DLCDHR12K1A1 A/C unit to a separate thread...

I finally received my IRwidget; could you recommend next steps to achieve my goal IE: extract IR signal form my AC remote which seems to have an unusual length and check if the Widget's ability to capture long signals is a solution to that problem. Then convert the signal to Pronto Hex codes to be used on my USB-UIRT device.
I have captured alternating ON-OFF signals with IRscope and uploaded the file in the diagnosis area

That's not an IRScope file, IRScope files have a .ict suffix. _________________ Rob

Thx for the reply Rob, I have reuploaded the file (ict), same link.
It is a series of 6 alternating ON-OFF signals which probably include temperature, fan speed, etc.
Just a starting point, If this makes sense I can upload other combinations.
Just let me know how to proceed, I am new to this and willing to learn / help as I can.
Just for my education, I guess this is an uncommon signal, therefore it doesn't replicate any standard protocol/device/sub device, right?
Thx again. |

Cool, you were able to capture the complete signal this time, you got a longer data string that before where the first portion is consistent with the data you captured earlier.
There were 6 learns but only 2 unique signals, and comparing to the previous learns, they appear to be the UP and SELECT buttons.
Here's the binary (don't try to "use" this, it's just a visual representation):
up
11000100 11010011 01100100 10000000 00000000 00100100 11000000 11110000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 11010010

In IRScope there is a menu item Export > Export Mode that allows you to export a signal as Pronto Hex. _________________ Graham |

It is unusual when compared to regular IR signals, but not when compared to other A/C signals. The thing with A/C signals is they build everything into a single data stream.
For a normal IR signal, for a TV or DVD or whatever, there are separate codes for ON/OFF, Volume, Brightness, Color, etc but in an A/C signal, all of these settings are built into the one signal. So, if we were to fully decode the structure of your A/C signals, we would find that each signal says things like: ON, fan speed 4, temp 3, something else 5, etc.
If you're interested in decoding the signal, make a note of all the things you can change on the remote (ie, temp, fan speed, etc) and then capture the signal after pressing FAN SPEED UP several times. Then you'll probably need me to convert it into binary for you, but if we do that, you'll notice one portion of the signal changing each time. Then repeat the process with TEMP UP and we'll notice a different portion changing.
ylaviolette wrote: | However when I try to import the Pronto codes (exported with IRscope as suggested above) in my URC remote, I get the following error:
"Malformed Pronto signal Burst Space duration out of range for format 0"
Any clue where the problem is? |
It appears that the leadout time is too long, so all you need to do is change the very last item in the data string. So, for example, the first learned signal in the first file ends with "499A". If you replace that with "134B" it should work.
I split the USB-UIRT discussion here:
